In the last few days, transfer stories about three Spurs transfer targets have evolved further as well a rumour about one player possibly departing the club. Here you can catch up:
Under: In recent weeks, a tug of war had been developing between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur over the signing of Turkish wonder-kid Cegniz Under. The 19 year old striker, who’s been labelled ‘the Turkish Dybala’, had been reportedly bid roughly £8 million for by Spurs, who had stolen a march on rivals Manchester United.
However, many officials representing his current club Basaksehir, as well as the player’s agent, all publicly revealed that no deal with any club had been agreed. Now, it’s being reported that French club Lille are attempting to hi-jack the move and sign the youngster under the very noses of the two Premier League cubs.
Many European clubs had been scouting Under while playing in Turkey, so it was only natural that Spurs would have to battle off potential suitors. Now the race is really hotting up, as other sports news outlets have quoted Borussia Dortmund as another side interested in the youngster’s signature.
Sessegnon: In recent weeks, Tottenham have been named by the media as the most likely destination for Fulham’s 17 year old breakthrough star last season, Ryan Sessegnon. Though it was all rumour, Tottenham’s chances of signing the teenager took a massive boost this week, when Liverpool pulled out of the race.
For a month or so, it had been an apparent race between the Merseysiders and Spurs, with only slight interest coming from the two Manchester sides. Now though, Spurs lead the way and many news outlets attribute this to Pochettino’s ability to work with youngsters and award them game-time opportunities at the highest level.
Ryan Sessegnon is reportedly willing to move to a big club keen to join Spurs and develop his game under the Argentine manager. Now we wait to see if Spurs can complete a deal to actually bring the wonder-kid to the club.
Lopez: Goalkeeper Pau Lopez joined Tottenham on a temporary basis on transfer deadline day last Summer, and though he didn’t play any games, Mauricio Pochettino is determined to keep the 22 year old at the club on a permanent basis.
Pochettino and Lopez worked together previously during Poch’s time at Espanyol and may regard the shot-stopper as a future replacement for current Spurs captain Hugo Lloris. According to The Guardian, Spurs have officially bid £2 million up front for the ‘keeper, however the figure may rise to £4 million subject to conditions.
Tottenham had the opportunity to sign Lopez for £7 million in January thanks to an option to buy clause in the loan deal, but rejected it as they felt they could secure the signing for a smaller fee. The club are apparently very confident of finalising a deal in the coming weeks.
Sissoko: And finally, a potential departure could finally take place for flop Summer signing and public want-away Moussa Sissoko. Recently, in a revealing interview with L’Equipe, Sissoko pleaded for an exit this Summer and asked for Spurs not to place too high a value on his price-tag. What a brass neck.
Anyway, it seems a healthy middle ground could be achieved as, according to Football.London, an unnamed team from the Chinese Super League could be willing to splash out on the French international. Though it seems unlikely, it wouldn’t be the first time our heads have been turned by a Chinese move for one of our flop signings. In 2015, Spurs managed to sell Brazilian midfielder Paulinho to Guangzhou Evergrande for little under £10 million.
In spite of this, Sissoko has stated he wants to be firmly in Didier Deschamps international plans. Therefore, a move back to Ligue 1 would be more logical for the 27 year old.
