Speaking to Sky Sports, Tottenham Hotspur duo Dejan Kulusevski and Ryan Sessegnon have backed Harry Kane to bounce back from his World Cup penalty miss.
England took on France in the quarter-final of the tournament on Saturday evening but fell short in a 2-1 defeat. A first-half strike from Aurelien Tchouameni had given France the lead but Kane equalised from the spot after 54 minutes, taking his international tally to 53 goals (Transfermarkt).
Olivier Giroud then put France in front again, but Harry Kane had the chance to level things once more as Mason Mount won a penalty in the 84th minute. Unfortunately, Kane fired his penalty over the bar, and England were unable to find their way back into the game.
Kane himself has admitted on Twitter that the experience “hurts and it’ll take some time to get over it.” It is now hoped that the effect of that miss won’t impact the second half of the season for the Spurs striker.
The 29-year-old certainly has the support of his club teammates, though, as both Kulusevski and Sessegnon insisted they were proud of Kane.
Sessegnon said: “Obviously it will be a very difficult moment for him. He’ll be hurting, but of course, we know the mentality [he] has and he’ll be ready to go again in the first game back after this break.”
On the reaction Kane can expect from those around him, Kulusevski commented: “I think he did very good over the whole tournament. We are proud of him and we can’t wait for him to get back, to play with him, and to help him score loads of goals.”
Spurs Web Opinion
With the kind of support Harry Kane can expect from the players, staff, and fans at Tottenham Hotspur, I have no doubt he will be absolutely fine when the season resumes. He’s not the kind of guy to let things get to him, and he will be raring to go.
