Antonio Conte has admitted that Ryan Sessegnon is ‘ready’ to be involved in the upcoming games even though he is not yet at 100 per cent.
Sessegnon picked up a hamstring injury back at the start of November, which saw him miss Tottenham’s final match before the mid-season break – their dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds United.
The World Cup seemingly came at the right time for the 22-year-old as he has had a month and a half to rehabilitate from his injury.
However, Sessegnon has not been seen training with the group in the videos posted by the club so far, and the former Fulham man has missed all three friendlies against Motherwell, Peterborough Under-21s, and Nice.
With Ivan Perisic also not available owing to Croatia’s march to the semifinal of the World Cup, Matt Doherty has had to fill in at left wing-back and the Republic of Ireland international has impressed, with four goals in the three friendlies.
However, Conte has now seemingly hinted that Sessegnon could be available for the clash against Brentford on Boxing Day, after he appeared on the bench against Nice.
The Tottenham head coach told Spurs Play following his side’s 1-1 draw against Nice: “It was good to have time to recover Sessegnon. He’s not still 100% but now he’s ready.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I suspect Conte will not start Sessegnon until he feels the 22-year-old is at 100 per cent. So, Ivan Perisic will probably go straight into the starting eleven for Spurs’ Boxing Day clash against Brentford, with Doherty likely start at right wing-back.
