Alasdair Gold has said that Ryan Sessegnon was distraught when he learned that he would be sidelined for six weeks with a hamstring injury.
Things have gone from bad to worse for Tottenham on the injury front over the last week, with news first emerging that they will be without their captain, Hugo Lloris, for six to eight weeks after he sustained a knee injury in the win over Manchester City (Telegraph).
Spurs then announced on Thursday that Yves Bissouma will undergo surgery after injuring his ankle, with the timeframe for the midfielder’s return yet to be determined.
Bissouma’s midfielder partner Rodrigo Bentancur then picked up an ACL injury in Tottenham’s 4-1 loss at the King Power Stadium, with the Uruguayan being ruled out for the rest of the season (Guardian).
Sessegnon was not part of the matchday squad that travelled to Leicester and it emerged over the weekend that the 22-year-old had injured his hamstring in training in the lead-up to the game and faces a month and a half out of action (Football.London).
Gold has explained that the former Fulham man is devastated at the development as he had worked hard during pre-season to ensure his hamstring issues do not reoccur.
The journalist said on his YouTube channel: “Then there’s Ryan Sessegnon. Like I said earlier, I understand he’s absolutely devastated by this one, because he worked so hard in the summer to try and build up his body to prevent these hamstring injuries. And to have one that’s going to take him out for six weeks, it’s just soul-destroying for him.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Right from the start of the season, Spurs have had to deal with more injuries than almost any other side in the Premier League. In fact, Conte has not had a fully fit squad to choose from on too many occasions this campaign.
I do wonder if there will be some question marks at the club regarding the intensity of training under the Italian regime and whether it has exacerbated the problem in a season where the schedule was especially hectic.
