Former Tottenham right-back Pascal Chimbonda has said that Antonio Conte appears to be a frustrated figure at Spurs and urged Daniel Levy to give the Italian the players he wants in the summer.
There is no clarity at the moment regarding Conte’s future at Tottenham, with the Italian’s current contract running out in the summer (Transfermarkt), and that is not a situation that looks likely to change anytime soon.
There have even been some reports over recent months suggesting that the 53-year-old is likely to part ways with the North London club and return to Italy in the summer to be closer to his family (The Sun’s Martin Lipton – Off the Ball).
However, for the moment, there is still a lot to play for this season, with the Lilywhites still in the Champions League and the FA Cup, while battling for a top-four finish.
Chimbonda believes that the Tottenham head coach has not been given the players he wants and that has to change if he is to commit his future to the club.
The Frenchman told 888Sport (as relayed by The Daily Star): “I don’t think Conte is very happy with the transfer window. The players he wanted are not the players he got.
“That’s why he’s frustrated. At Chelsea and Inter Milan he had big players there. Daniel Levy should have confidence in him and give him what he wants.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Conte is not someone who hides his true feelings from the press. If he feels the club have not kept their promises or had signed players he did not want, he would have mentioned so publicly in no uncertain terms, just as he did during his time at Chelsea and Inter.
Everything that Conte has said over recent months regarding Paratici and Levy suggests that the three are on the same page.
The fact that Spurs were willing to pay such a huge fee for another right wing-back in Porro on top of sacrificing a transfer fee to release Doherty, shows that the club are prepared to back the Italian’s vision despite his refusal to commit.
