Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur might be prepared to allow Emerson Royal to leave the club for the right fee this summer.

Emerson had initially struggled to settle at Spurs and became a figure who frustrated some of the Tottenham fan base, which is why it came as a bit of a surprise when the club decided to offload Matt Doherty on a free to Atletico Madrid in January and keep hold of the Brazilian.

However, the 24-year-old did manage to turn his Tottenham career around and won the fans over with some of his impressive displays in the second half of the season.

The right-back suffered a knee injury during Brazil’s clash against Morocco in March but he is now thought to be close to a return (Football.London).

The former Real Betis man’s father and agent, Emerson Zulu, declared two weeks ago that his son wants to make the step up to a team that can challenge for trophies this summer and asserted that he would fit in well at Real Madrid (the Charla Podcast via AS).

However, this was quickly refuted by Royal, who insisted that he is happy at Tottenham and that he has never spoken to his father about leaving the club (talkSPORT via Fabrizio Romano).

When asked about Zulu’s comments, O’Rourke has now told GiveMeSport: “The agent’s saying that he thinks he could go to a bigger club than Tottenham, but he would definitely need to become more consistent and improve his performances for that to happen.

“But with Porro in there now, I think Spurs might be open to letting Emerson Royal leave in the summer for the right fee.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Tottenham would make any transfer decisions (either on incomings or outgoings) until they have either a new head coach or a director of football in place, and the club do not seem particularly close to filling either position at the moment.
