Emerson Royal has been discussing the difficult season Tottenham Hotspur have had, and outlined the main mission for next year for the club.
Tottenham put in poor performances all season and a string of frustrating results saw the North London side slip well below the expected standards.
The Lilywhites ended the season in eighth place in the Premier League table, with Aston Villa pipping them to Europa Conference League qualification in seventh.
It’s a far cry from the dizzying heights of last season, where Tottenham were able to climb into the top four at the expense of Arsenal and qualify for the Champions League.
Not only did Spurs fail in the league this season, but they fell short when it came to the Champions League, too.
They were knocked out in the round of 16 by AC Milan, after uninspiring displays across the two legs against the Italians.
Naturally, there is a demand for far better next season from everyone connected with the club.
But, with a new Director of Football and a new permanent manager still to be appointed, plus an overhaul of the stale squad needed, it won’t be an easy task.
Royal has been speaking (via London World) on the downfall this season, and looking ahead to next year, and made it very clear what is expected.
He said: “We tried to stay in Europe but it was not possible we will try again next season, we need to push and keep pushing to achieve our targets next season.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Obviously, we would rather be in a European competition, but I do think not having that distraction will do us some good next season as we look to transition this squad.
However, we cannot be out of the mix for too long, and qualification next year is a must.
