Much has been made of Tottenham’s new stadium this season, but unfortunately for the players, fans and staff, the headlines have been largely negative.
The stadium was set for its grand opening against Liverpool on September 15, but delays have pushed this date back indefinitely.
Daniel Levy has extended Tottenham’s Wembley stay until December 15, but rumours are swirling that the ground may not be ready until early January, with one source claiming that March 2019 is more realistic.
Spurs were drawn at home in the third round of the Carabao Cup, but unfortunately Wembley is already in use that weekend.
Tottenham were therefore given an ultimatum, find a new ground to play at, or reverse the fixture to allow opponents Watford to play at home.
The North London club lumped for option one, settling on MK Dons’ Stadium MK, where star Dele Alli learned his trade in League 1, before Spurs snapped him up.
It has now emerged that Alli actually pushed for his old home to be used: “I heard the rumours that it could be a possibility and I tried to push for it as much as I could!
“It will be a great experience going back there, it will be nice for the boys to see it as well, I’ve been bigging it up since I got here, saying how good the stadium is.
“It’s a bit different to Wembley, but it’s still a great stadium to play at.”
