Tanguy Ndombele has joked with Yves Bissouma that he will not be able to displace Harry Kane as Tottenham’s free-kick taker despite showcasing his recent set-piece masterclass in training.
Bissouma has settled into life at Spurs well after sealing a transfer from Brighton earlier on this summer.
The 25-year-old made his debut in last week’s 2-1 pre-season win against Rangers, which came after he was ruled out of action during the club’s tour of South Korea due to Covid-19.
Bissouma then started the final pre-season match against Roma, as he looked to impress Antonio Conte with less than one week until Spurs get their Premier League campaign underway.
Ahead of the match in Israel, he uploaded an Instagram video of himself working on refining a lesser-known side to his game – his striking ability from free-kicks.
The Mali international netted all four of the free-kicks that were captured, finding the corner with his first three efforts before scoring his final shot via the crossbar.
But Ndombele, despite hailing Bissouma’s attempts, shared a joke with the former Brighton man that free-kick duties at Spurs will still be under talisman Kane’s watch.
Commenting on Bissouma’s efforts on his Instagram story, he said (via Football.London): “It’s my number 10 who shoots so leave it. But well played.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Bissouma’s video was very interesting to see as he isn’t exactly known for his ability to find the back of the net or striking free-kicks. But it could put him in the conversation to become one of the main free-kick takers at Spurs given Kane hasn’t exactly got the best historical record from set-pieces.
