Jose Mourinho has hailed Tottenham as a ‘top team’ after Roma met his former club in a pre-season friendly.
Both sides continued their preparations for the new season on Saturday evening with Spurs taking on their final warm-up match of the summer.
A gritty encounter was played out in Haifa, Israel, but it was Roma who took the spoils with a 1-0 win courtesy of Roger Ibanez’s header in the first period.
Taking bragging rights over his old club, Mourinho, who was in charge of Spurs for one-and-a-half years, was complimentary of the club after the match.
He was also particularly pleased to be reunited with winger Lucas Moura, who emerged as a favourite of the Portuguese coach during his time in north London.
Mourinho said on Instagram: “Great training session with a top team, and one of the great things in football is the amazing people you cross life paths with.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It was far from the best stint for Mourinho at Spurs and it is no secret that it could have gone a lot smoother overall. But it is quite nice to see him still appreciative of the club despite the way things ended with him.
