Former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn scored a beautiful curling effort on his full official debut for Ajax.
Bergwijn joined the Eredivisie champions in a £26.4 million deal earlier this summer (Sky Sports), bringing an end to a difficult stint at Spurs.
He had long struggled to force his way into the starting fold and remained a fringe player under Antonio Conte, making just eight starts in all competitions last term (Transfermarkt).
In what is a fresh start at Ajax for the Netherlands international, he has already made an instant impact by netting in his first game for the club in their Super Cup final against PSV Eindhoven.
Bergwijn opened the scoring in a hectic encounter at the Johan Cruyff Arena, cutting inside from the left side of the penalty area to fire a powerful shot past goalkeeper Walter Benitez.
However, the 24-year-old’s effort would not be enough to inspire Ajax to victory as PSV stormed to a 5-3 victory to open their campaign with silverware under their belt.
Spurs Web Opinion
Bergwijn has always had the talent and we saw that at points at Spurs, but just not on a regular basis. His move to Ajax was still the best for everyone involved, though, and he will likely be a hit there.
