Former Tottenham winger Jack Clarke scored for Sunderland as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Coventry on their return to the Championship.

Clarke, who spent last season on loan with the Black Cats, made a permanent move to Wearside earlier this summer after helping the club secure promotion from League One.

His departure from Spurs came after he made just four first-team appearances in three years for the club (Transfermarkt) following his switch from Leeds in 2019.

Named in the starting line-up for Sunderland’s opening Championship game against Coventry, Clarke made an instant impact as he netted on their return to the second tier following a four-year absence.

The 21-year-old handed his side a lead against the Sky Blues after just 12 minutes, heading in a lofted cross at the far post to send the Stadium of Light into raptures.

But his effort was only enough to earn Sunderland a point as Coventry pegged them back to equalise with less than 10 minutes of time remaining.

Spurs Web Opinion

It is a shame that Clarke didn’t progress at all at Spurs, but he never really came close to forcing his way into the line-up.

The move to Sunderland will have likely been the easiest decision for him to make with opportunities at Spurs coming at a big premium and it is good to see him score on their Championship return.

Football.London journalist Alasdair Gold has predicted that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur will start in Tottenham’s opening Premier League fixture against Southampton.

Spurs have now concluded their pre-season preparations and all eyes will now be on Saturday’s match at home to the Saints in North London.

Antonio Conte has had the opportunity to experiment with his squad over the summer and got a chance to acquaint himself with his six new signings, including Brighton arrival Yves Bissouma.

The Mali international had a relatively disrupted pre-season with a bout of Covid during Spurs’ trip to South Korea ruling him out of action and losing valuable match time.

While Bissouma returned for the final two friendlies against Rangers and Roma, Spurs then frustratingly lost Oliver Skipp to a foot injury which could keep him out of the Southampton game (Football London).

With less than one week to go until Spurs kick off their league campaign, Gold believes Conte will revert to last season’s tried and tested partnership of Hojbjerg and Bentancur for the first encounter.

He said (via Football.London): “In the centre of the pitch, Yves Bissouma still needs work to get that Conte fitness and his sharpness, particularly after this month’s bout of Covid.”

Gold added: “Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur looks to be the likely partnership in the middle next Saturday.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A partnership of Hojbjerg and Bentancur for Southampton looks to be the safest bet for Spurs and Conte given the uncertainties with Bissouma and Skipp.

But within a couple of games, all the players should be fit and up to match sharpness which should provide plenty of healthy competition going forward.

Former Tottenham winger Steven Bergwijn scored a beautiful curling effort on his full official debut for Ajax.

Bergwijn joined the Eredivisie champions in a £26.4 million deal earlier this summer (Sky Sports), bringing an end to a difficult stint at Spurs.

He had long struggled to force his way into the starting fold and remained a fringe player under Antonio Conte, making just eight starts in all competitions last term (Transfermarkt).

In what is a fresh start at Ajax for the Netherlands international, he has already made an instant impact by netting in his first game for the club in their Super Cup final against PSV Eindhoven.

Bergwijn opened the scoring in a hectic encounter at the Johan Cruyff Arena, cutting inside from the left side of the penalty area to fire a powerful shot past goalkeeper Walter Benitez.

However, the 24-year-old’s effort would not be enough to inspire Ajax to victory as PSV stormed to a 5-3 victory to open their campaign with silverware under their belt.

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn has always had the talent and we saw that at points at Spurs, but just not on a regular basis. His move to Ajax was still the best for everyone involved, though, and he will likely be a hit there.

Roma are interested in signing Tottenham defender Japhet Tanganga on loan for the season, according to Il Tempo (31/07/22, print edition, page 16).

The Giallorossi are said to be keen on adding a central defender this summer and are interested in landing Tanganga on a temporary deal with an option to buy him permanently.

The report adds that the Spurs academy graduate is on a shortlist containing Dan Axel Zagadou, who recently departed Borussia Dortmund as a free agent and Manchester United’s Eric Bailly.

Roma’s emergence in the race for Tanganga comes after the 23-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to fellow Serie A outfit AC Milan in recent weeks.

Football Insider report a move to the Italian capital is now close with Tanganga in advanced talks to finalise a switch to the San Siro.

CalcioMercatoWeb claim Milan are keen on completing a loan deal with an option to buy while Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici pushed for an obligation clause at 25 million (£21.2m).

Spurs Web Opinion

While it looked like Tanganga was destined to move to Milan, Roma’s emergence in the pursuit could complicate things if they are serious about a transfer. Either way, it could be good news for Spurs if two clubs could fight over one player they are looking to offload.

Chelsea have offered striker Timo Werner on loan to RB Leipzig in an attempt to sign defender Josko Gvardiol, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The journalist claimed the Blues made a fresh attempt to sign Gvardiol but have not been successful with their proposal, with Leipzig keen to keep him on board at the club.

Chelsea’s new interest comes after Tottenham took a liking to the Croatia international earlier this summer as they looked to add a left-sided central defender to Antonio Conte’s squad (The Athletic).

Journalist Pete O’Rourke claimed the 20-year-old was among Spurs’ top targets (GiveMeSport) while Alasdair Gold asserted he headed a shortlist of candidates.

Gvardiol put together a strong first season with Leipzig after his move from Dinamo Zagreb, emerging as one of the top defensive talents in the Bundesliga.

He made 45 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt) and was a key man as the club secured a top-four finish to seal their spot in the Champions League.

Spurs Web Opinion

Gvardiol is deservedly attracting attention this summer from all the top clubs and it is no surprise after the recent season he had. But Chelsea look to be facing the same difficulties other clubs have encountered already with Leipzig understandably keen to keep one of their prized assets.

Antonio Conte has urged Cristian Romero and the rest of the Tottenham squad to have ‘a hot heart and a cold mind’ if they are to create a winning mentality.

Romero has emerged as a key player in the Spurs defence since joining the club on an initial loan from Atalanta last summer.

The Argentina international has regularly displayed an aggressive style of defending, often challenging on the front foot and not showing any fear of getting stuck into tackles.

Romero has also not shied away from carrying his aggression over into Spurs’ pre-season friendlies, and continued to showcase his grit in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat to Roma.

He made a crunching challenge to deny Nicolo Zaniolo in front of goal and was later involved in a close-up altercation with Lorenzo Pellegrini, which earned the pair a yellow card each.

Conte, when asked about Romero’s combative edge and his willingness to defend his teammates, explained he wants to see a similar approach from the other Spurs players too.

He said (via Football.London): “I think that in every situation it’s important to have a hot heart and a cold mind. This is the most important thing if you want to be a winner.

“You have to be ready to fight in the right way but you also have to pay great attention. At the same time, I like when my team go to help another player, to create a special unity.

“But every time we need to also have a mind that’s very, very cold. This is very, very important if you want to take another step.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero’s style of defending is quite risky but it is very rewarding as it he is able to take a lot of pressure off Spurs at the back. It’s good to have that sort of edge in the squad as it will likely be infectious to the other Spurs players in creating a close-knit group.

Jose Mourinho has hailed Tottenham as a ‘top team’ after Roma met his former club in a pre-season friendly.

Both sides continued their preparations for the new season on Saturday evening with Spurs taking on their final warm-up match of the summer.

A gritty encounter was played out in Haifa, Israel, but it was Roma who took the spoils with a 1-0 win courtesy of Roger Ibanez’s header in the first period.

Taking bragging rights over his old club, Mourinho, who was in charge of Spurs for one-and-a-half years, was complimentary of the club after the match.

He was also particularly pleased to be reunited with winger Lucas Moura, who emerged as a favourite of the Portuguese coach during his time in north London.

Mourinho said on Instagram: “Great training session with a top team, and one of the great things in football is the amazing people you cross life paths with.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It was far from the best stint for Mourinho at Spurs and it is no secret that it could have gone a lot smoother overall. But it is quite nice to see him still appreciative of the club despite the way things ended with him.

Antonio Conte has claimed Ivan Perisic is not currently the player he knows as the Croatian continues to work his way back up to full match sharpness.

Joining Spurs as a free agent earlier in the summer, Perisic has formed one of six signings the club has made to strengthen Conte’s squad ahead of the new campaign.

But the Croatia international arrived in North London carrying a calf injury from his previous spell with Inter Milan, causing his pre-season preparations to come at a slight delay.

He made his Spurs debut as a substitute in a friendly against Rangers and was handed a starting role in the final pre-season match with Roma.

Perisic gave a good account of himself as he clocked up 75 minutes of action in Israel but could not inspire Spurs to end their preparations on a strong note as they were beaten 1-0.

Conte admitted he is happy to have Perisic back at his disposal but insisted he still has plenty of work to get back to the same levels he showed at Inter.

He said (via Football.London): “He’s an important player because he’s really good. He moves forward, good in one v ones, and then he can use both feet and he was before a winger which us why he’s good in one v one.

“But he has to continue to work because at this moment he’s not the Ivan Perisic I know. That is normal though, but I’m happy because he reduced the time to recover from his injury.”

Spurs Web Opinion

You can tell Perisic is still working his way up the fitness ladder and aiming to get back to full match sharpness after the injury he sustained.

Conte will know Perisic more than anyone at Spurs after their time together at Inter and will understand just how much further he can go in terms of improving.

Antonio Conte has admitted he is happy with how a number of his Tottenham players performed during pre-season but insisted patience will be needed for the pieces to all fall into place.

Embarking on his first summer at Spurs, Conte has been leading the charge in North London after helping the club secure a spot in the Champions League last season.

The 53-year-old coach has had to integrate six new signings into his squad and has done so successfully during a tour of South Korea and friendlies against Rangers and, most recently, Roma in Israel.

Although Spurs suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat against the Italian side to conclude their pre-season preparations, Conte has still been left impressed by what he saw from a number of his players by offering a comprehensive review of their displays.

Conte said (via Football.London): “First of all, the most important thing is that all the players, except Oliver Skipp, have trained and trained well.

“In this moment we have two players, Ivan Perisic and Doherty, they have to continue to work and reach the peak of fitness because after a long injury they are struggling a lot. We need to have patience.

“But today it was positive to give them a lot of time to play again for Matthew and Ivan. Bissouma is also a player who has to come into our idea of football.

“I’m happy for Lenglet, for Clement, because he came in with personality. We need a player to play, to play with personality, to have the quality to play football, also to attack. It was positive.

“It’s positive that Ben Davies has recovered. I didn’t want to take a risk today because we have another week to work and to bring him in the best physical condition so he doesn’t feel pain in his ankle. Now he feels a bit of pain. He was ready to play today but I didn’t want to risk it.

“Richarlison I liked a lot the way he impacted the game. We need this type of player. Richarlison to start the game or go into the game, he can have a big impact. For us, it’s very important. We need him behind Sonny, also Kane and Kulusevski. He is an important player because we have a lot of games to play.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs had a solid pre-season under Conte and he has had a chance to fully implement his methods in and get the new signings used to his way of playing.

There have been a few players that have been recovering from injury and picked up problems along the way, but that is all part of the game which Conte will be more than capable of negotiating.

Tanguy Ndombele has joked with Yves Bissouma that he will not be able to displace Harry Kane as Tottenham’s free-kick taker despite showcasing his recent set-piece masterclass in training.

Bissouma has settled into life at Spurs well after sealing a transfer from Brighton earlier on this summer.

The 25-year-old made his debut in last week’s 2-1 pre-season win against Rangers, which came after he was ruled out of action during the club’s tour of South Korea due to Covid-19.

Bissouma then started the final pre-season match against Roma, as he looked to impress Antonio Conte with less than one week until Spurs get their Premier League campaign underway.

Ahead of the match in Israel, he uploaded an Instagram video of himself working on refining a lesser-known side to his game – his striking ability from free-kicks.

The Mali international netted all four of the free-kicks that were captured, finding the corner with his first three efforts before scoring his final shot via the crossbar.

But Ndombele, despite hailing Bissouma’s attempts, shared a joke with the former Brighton man that free-kick duties at Spurs will still be under talisman Kane’s watch.

Commenting on Bissouma’s efforts on his Instagram story, he said (via Football.London): “It’s my number 10 who shoots so leave it. But well played.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bissouma’s video was very interesting to see as he isn’t exactly known for his ability to find the back of the net or striking free-kicks. But it could put him in the conversation to become one of the main free-kick takers at Spurs given Kane hasn’t exactly got the best historical record from set-pieces.

Tottenham have held a meeting with Villarreal to discuss the availability of midfielders Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele, according to journalist Xavi Jorquera.

It is claimed the Yellow Submarine have left the exchange happy with their progress towards attaining Lo Celso, who spent the second half of last season in their company on loan.

The report adds Villarreal have also taken an interest in fellow midfielder Ndombele, with the possibility of swapping Ecuadorian left-back Pervis Estupinan now being considered.

Estupinan, 24, emerged as a key man for Unai Emery last term making 40 appearances in all competitions (Transfermarkt) as he helped his side reach the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Spurs midfield pair Lo Celso and Ndombele are expected to be available on the market this summer (Evening Standard) after both endured tricky campaigns last time out respectively.

They did not feature for head coach Antonio Conte during pre-season and were omitted from the squad that travelled to South Korea earlier this month.

Spurs Web Opinion

Villarreal’s link with Lo Celso is clear from his decent spell with them in the second half of last term, so it will likely be a case of putting together a deal that works for both parties.

Their interest in Ndombele is also interesting as he is the more expensive option which could be why they may be willing to include Estupinan in a swap in order to make the move feasible.

Former Tottenham forward Steven Bergwijn has admitted he had ‘no connection’ with Antonio Conte and rarely spoke to the Italian coach during his time at the club.

Bergwijn left Spurs for Ajax earlier this summer after a difficult two-and-a-half-year stint in North London where he struggled to work his way into a regular starting role.

He made just one start in the Premier League under Conte last season (Transfermarkt) with the bulk of his appearances coming from the bench towards the end of matches.

However, the lack of action came after Conte insisted the 24-year-old would be an important part of his squad, following his late heroics to earn Spurs a 3-2 win at Leicester in February (Sky Sports).

Now back in his native Netherlands, Bergwijn has since revealed he had a blunt relationship with the former Inter Milan boss, which led to a complete breakdown ahead of his eventual exit.

Bergwijn told Algemeen Dagblad: “When he told the media during the winter break that I was going to be important and he didn’t want me to go to Ajax, I thought: ‘OK, this is not the time to argue. Let’s see if it changes’.

“You work hard and fill in well, but you always get three or four minutes of playing time. That’s not what I was waiting for. It was very frustrating. Then I wasn’t the guy everyone sees laughing all the time.”

He added: “I had no connection with Conte. I think we only had one conversation after the last practice of the season. I then went to the director and said: ‘Listen, I’m not coming back. We’re going to find a solution. I just want to leave’.

“[Conte] said: ‘I’m sorry I didn’t let you play much. We didn’t have cup matches and I really wanted to finish fourth to get to the Champions League’.

“He chose Harry Kane as the striker. I understood that, but I could also play in other positions. I just didn’t feel like listening anymore.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Bergwijn understandably became frustrated with the lack of minutes at Spurs as he just wanted to be playing regular football at that stage of his career.

It is difficult as Harry Kane and Heung-min Son are guaranteed starters, while Conte also seemed to prefer Lucas Moura instead. But the move to Ajax should serve as a reset for him to get himself back on track.

Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski has admitted he enjoys the brutal impact of Antonio Conte’s training sessions as believes it will better prepare him for the challenges ahead.

Kulusevski, who joined Spurs from Juventus, has enjoyed a strong start to life in North London since arriving in the January transfer window.

The Sweden international slotted into Antonio Conte’s line-up seamlessly, developing an excellent combination with Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to help power Spurs into the Champions League.

Upon his arrival at the club, Kulusevski admitted he ‘loves suffering’ (Daily Mail) and was ready to put in the hard work under Conte’s regime to set him up for the challenge of English football.

Set to complete his first pre-season ahead of a first full Spurs campaign, the 22-year-old clarified the remarks and added it is ‘amazing to have pain everywhere’ as the graft should pay off in the long run.

He said (via Football.London): “It’s amazing, it’s really amazing to have pain everywhere. I think it’s a fantastic thing to have you know?

“I love to work hard because everything in life comes from working hard. It’s a little bit difficult, of course, nothing is easy, but this is what you have to do to become a champion.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kulusevski’s comments are very refreshing as they give a clear signal that he wants to work hard and keep getting better. It is a really good work ethic to have and it could reflect on his Spurs teammates which is always a positive.

Napoli will turn their attention towards signing Tottenham midfielder Giovani Lo Celso once they move forward with Piotr Zielinski’s proposed switch to West Ham, according to La Repubblica (30/07/22 via CalcioNapoli24).

The Patenopei are expecting the Hammers to raise their bid to 40 million to sign the Poland international after tuning down a preciously insufficient opening bid.

Should a deal materialise, the report claims Napoli sporting director Giuntoli will ramp up efforts to secure their replacement in Lo Celso, who has been made available for an exit from Tottenham.

It adds Spurs are open to structuring a deal as a loan with an option to make it permanent next summer – a formula which would suit Napoli over other Serie A sides.

Lo Celso, who joined Spurs in 2019, has endured a difficult stint in north London having failed to reproduce his performances from his time at Real Betis.

The Argentina international spent the second half of last season on loan at Villarreal and impressed in his 21 outings for the club (Transfermarkt) as they reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.

Upon returning to Spurs over the summer, he has not played a part in Antonio Conte’s pre-season preparations having been left out of the squad that travelled on tour to South Korea this month.

Spurs Web Opinion

Napoli’s interest in Lo Celso is good news for Spurs considering they want to offload him so much this summer. It looks like Zielinski’s proposed move to West Ham is heading in the right direction but the deal for Lo Celso somewhat hinges on that deal which isn’t always the best scope.

The Sun journalist Martin Lipton has claimed Tottenham could consider selling Matt Doherty if they fail to receive any interest in Emerson Royal.

Making the move to Spurs from Wolves in 2020, Doherty has endured a mixed spell in North London as he prepares to embark on his third season with the club.

The 30-year-old has often struggled to work his way into the starting line-up but found form under Antonio Conte last term before a knee towards the back end of the campaign forced him out.

While making his return over the pre-season period and turning out at left wing-back, he was the only outfielder to be left on the bench for their 2-1 win at Rangers last week.

And with the addition of talented wing-back Djed Spence, Lipton believes Spurs will be looking more towards outing Emerson but claims they would not hesitate to cash in on Doherty if a suitable offer arrived.

He told Off The Ball: “I thought he was he was struggling to be the player he’d been at Wolves or indeed was in an Ireland shirt.

“And then suddenly last season for a couple of months, he was absolutely outstanding. He’s certainly a far better attacking player than Emerson Royal.

“I think that Doherty will certainly, if he’s fit and right, I think he would probably start the season as the first-choice right-back or right wing-back. That doesn’t mean he’ll stay there.

“And it all depends and that presupposes they’re going to sell someone which will be I suspect Emerson Royal but were they to receive a bid for Doherty and not for Royal then they might decide to cash in there. Just because they have Spence now adding to the squad.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham are fairly saturated when it comes to the right wing-back spot now, especially when you can also add Lucas Moura to the players that can be deployed there.

Emerson will likely be the one they want to offload the most as Doherty can play on the opposite side pretty effectively. However, both aren’t necessarily good enough so they would consider selling both if a decent offer came their way.

Japhet Tanganga has remained AC Milan’s main defensive target having reached an agreement in principle to sign the Tottenham man, according to Corriere dello Sport (30/07/22 via Sport Witness).

Milan have identified Tanganga as a suitable option to bolster their squad but are continuing to work out the structure of a deal after holding a meeting with Spurs managing director Fabio Paratici.

The report notes that the Rossoneri want to sign the 23-year-old on an initial loan with an option to buy, while Spurs are insistent on including an obligation clause instead.

Meanwhile, according to CalcioMercato, AC Milan have reached an agreement in principle to sign Japhet Tanganga on loan from Tottenham but both clubs are still working on the figures involved in the deal.

It is claimed Milan have agreed on an initial loan for Tanganga, who is their top defensive transfer target, with an option to make the move permanent down the line.

However, the report adds they have not yet shaken hands with Spurs on how much the clause is due to be worth for the England youth international.

Journalist Daniele Longo recently reported Tanganga is keen on the move to the San Siro and is looking to bide his time while waiting for a deal to be put together.

The proposed switch to Italy comes after he endured another difficult season at Spurs where he again failed to force his way into the starting fold.

Tanganga’s last two campaigns have been plagued by injury issues with his most recent issue coming in the form of a knee injury which kept him out of action for the second half of the season.

He returned to full fitness over the summer and has featured regularly for Antonio Conte during his pre-season preparations.

Spurs Web Opinion

This deal looks like one that could drag out a little as both Spurs and Milan want slightly different structures overall. Eventually, one side will have to give in if they are to get what they want but hopefully there will be some kind of agreement that will benefit both.

Japhet Tanganga missed Tottenham’s pre-season friendly against Roma through illness, according to journalist Tom Barclay.

The 23-year-old had been part of the squad that travelled for the game in Israel but was unwell with a sickness not thought to be Covid-related.

He had featured in the rest of Spurs’ matches over the summer but was unable to round out his own preparations as Spurs suffered a 1-0 defeat in their final match of the pre-season campaign.

Tanganga has been strongly linked with a move away from Spurs recently with Serie A side AC Milan showing interest.

The Athletic claim both clubs are in talks about a loan deal, although there is a sticking point with Milan hoping to seal an option to buy at a price lower than Spurs’ €20 million (£16.8m) valuation.

Tanganga endured a difficult recent campaign, missing the second half of the season after going under the knife to repair a knee injury.

He made 19 appearances across all competitions last season with just 11 of those coming in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

While it won’t have been ideal for Tanganga to have missed that final match, it will keep him injury-free ahead of that proposed move to Milan.

The fact he stayed fit for the majority of the pre-season period is still a positive sign and hopefully his switch to Italy will now start to gain more traction.

Tottenham’s board have ruled out Barcelona’s proposal to include Memphis Depay in a swap deal for Sergio Reguilon, according to AS.

The La Liga side reportedly offered the Netherlands international forward in a package for Reguilon (Fichajes), however, the proposition has been turned down by Spurs.

Reguilon has struggled for consistency for the vast majority of his time in North London since making a move from Real Madrid in 2020.

The 25-year-old made 31 appearances for Spurs last season (Transfermarkt) but found himself in and out of the starting line-up under Antonio Conte.

Reguilon’s place in the side has come under further threat following the arrival of Ivan Perisic, who joins Ryan Sessegnon and Matt Doherty who are all capable of playing at left wing-back.

Spurs Web Opinion

It seems Barcelona do have a solid interest in signing Reguilon but are having some problems trying to put together a deal to acquire him.

The best deal for Spurs would be to fully offload him for around that asking price and they seem pretty intent with not putting together a swap deal, particularly for a player that doesn’t necessarily fit.

Tottenham forward Dejan Kulusevski has admitted his best position is at right wing, his personal favourite is number ten, but hinted he could play as a wing-back at some point in the future.

Joining Spurs from Juventus in January, Kulusevski has enjoyed an excellent start to his career in North London, cementing a place in Antonio Conte’s line-up.

The 22-year-old emerged as a vital player in the second half of last season, tallying five goals and eight assists (Transfermarkt) to help Spurs secure a return to the Champions League on the final day of the season.

Playing on the right of a dynamic front three alongside Harry Kane and Heung-min Son, Kulusevski has already been deployed in a plethora of positions in his young career, ranging from central midfield to a second striker (Transfermarkt).

The Sweden international has since revealed he can see himself playing as a No. 10 but admitted his most productive position has been on the right wing. He also did not rule out the prospect of playing as a right-wing-back down the line.

Kulusevski said (via Football.London): “It’s a very good question, I’ve been thinking about this all my whole life.

“I always thought of me being a No 10, I still think I am, but my best results as a football player have always come being a right winger, so I don’t know!

“In the future, we will see where I’ll be. Yeah I can probably play wing-back too. It’s football, you want to help a good team, you want to play, enjoy, work hard and have fun.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kulusevski has surprised plenty of people at Spurs so far and he seems to have been playing without fear. He is quick, strong and good with the ball at his feet which can potentially make him quite versatile if he needs to be played elsewhere.

CBS Sport journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans wants to join Arsenal after previously also being linked with a potential move to Tottenham.

Tielemans has entered the final year of his contract with the Foxes with clubs looking to pick up a potential bargain going forward.

The Belgium international was reportedly on Spurs’ radar earlier in the summer (GiveMeSport) with Antonio Conte’s side still looking to add a creative midfielder to their squad (Evening Standard).

However, their North London rivals Arsenal have emerged as one of the more serious suitors with chiefs from the Gunners establishing contact with the 25-year-old’s representatives (Football.London).

Jacobs has revealed that Arsenal have still not made an official approach to Leicester regarding a transfer, but Tielemans is keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium having previously agreed personal terms.

He told GiveMeSport: “As Leicester have said and as I’ve said repeatedly, Arsenal have never made an offer for Youri Tielemans.

“What they have done is gone to the player and agreed personal terms, broadly speaking. What they do know is that Tielemans would like to move to Arsenal.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tielemans does not look like the type of player Spurs should be looking at anymore as they now have plenty of options in central midfield to choose from. He is also not necessarily the profile Spurs need in terms of creativity so this will likely be a rumour that will die out going forward.
