A report in the print edition of Sport (as relayed by Sport Witness) has claimed that Giovani Lo Celso is expected to remain at Tottenham Hotspur in January.
Lo Celso picked up a hamstring injury at the end of August, which has kept him out of action for six matches across all competitions the midfielder has now recovered from his injury and was named on the bench in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Luton on Saturday.
The 27-year-old has also been named in Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Paraguay and Peru.
Lo Celso not leaving Tottenham Hotspur in January
Sport have now provided a detailed explanation of Barca’s pursuit of the Tottenham man, explaining that they made a move for him in the summer after finding out that a deal for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva would not be possible.
The report adds that Xavi Hernandez remains a fan of Lo Celso but a January exit would be quite complicated as the midfielder’s situation has ‘changed radically’ after the arrival of Postecoglou as the Australian is ‘betting on him’.
The outlet asserts that the former Real Betis man ‘will not leave’ unless Barca submit an ‘important financial offer’ to tempt Daniel Levy, which is ‘unfeasible’ for the Catalan club, given the current financial predicament.
Spurs Web Opinion
Postecoglou seemingly wants to use Lo Celso as the main backup to Maddison, which is why the Argentine is unlikely to get any starts unless there is an injury to the England international.
The 27-year-old might perhaps push to leave Spurs in January if he fails to get any starts before then.
