Tottenham’s win at Marine on Sunday saw a youngster write his name in the history books. Alfie Devine became the club’s youngest player to make both a first-team appearance and score a professional goal in the 5-0 win.
The 16-year-old starlet joined the club from Wigan Athletic last summer and has already made an impact in North London.
The youngster came on at half-time in the FA Cup tie, replacing Moussa Sissoko, and he stamped his mark on the occasion with a delightful near-post finish.
Devine was bought for just £300,000 as Wigan were struggling financially during that time, with Daniel Levy always on the lookout for a bargain.
Gabby Agbonlahor has described how the academy prospect was a ‘great bit of business’ for the North London club in the summer.
The former Aston Villa player was speaking to Football Insider regarding the latest Tottenham academy prospect.
He said: “Look how young he is. It’s always great to see, like Louie Barry at Aston Villa, young players getting a chance and scoring goals on their debuts.
“It just shows they’ve got a big future and if the clubs can help develop them, help coach them to become even better players, they’re going to become stronger with age.
“So yes, it’s a great bit of business.
“Hopefully he’s the next one that can come through that Spurs academy and shine.”

It certainly seems like an exciting period for the Spurs youngsters. The club have already handed the likes of Dane Scarlett, Harvey White, and Jack Clarke first-team debuts at the start of the season.
The praise from Agbonlahor comes just days after it was highlighted just how highly-regarded Devine is amongst the club (Football.London). The Tottenham faithful can certainly hope that Sunday was just the start of the promising career of the 16-year-old.
