There can be no doubt that Alfie Devine’s stocks have certainly grown over the past month and the Spurs faithful continue to be excited by the potential of the 16-year-old.
It was at the start of January when Devine wrote his name in the history books of the club, becoming the youngest player to both score and make a first-team appearance in the 5-0 defeat at Marine.
The midfielder joined the North London club for an estimated fee of around £500,000 from Wigan Athletic in the summer (Evening Standard). Having featured regularly for the under-23 side at Spurs, it is already clear to see why the club signed the player.
Devine was also involved in an altercation that hit the headlines back in December. A crunching tackle on Chelsea player, Danny Drinkwater, resulted in a sending off for both players (SportBible).
It is not just the Tottenham faithful who seem to be appreciating the potential that the former Wigan player possesses either.
Current Arsenal academy starlet, Mauro Bandeira has revealed that “Alfie Devine (Tottenham) or Malcolm Ebiowei (Rangers)” are the best players he has faced in his career.
The comment, which can be found in Arsenal’s official programme, is a further reflection of just how highly-rated Devine is within the footballing community.
Spurs Web opinion:
It is hugely exciting to see such praise for a player who will certainly be one to look out for in the coming years. Given Devine’s start to life at Spurs, it can be easy to forget that he is only sixteen. But the future is most definitely bright for the young man.
