Jose Mourinho has revealed that Alfie Devine and Dane Scarlett have been training with the first-team squad this season.
Devine has made quite an impression with the Under-18s and Under-23s since arriving from Wigan Athletic in the summer.
The midfielder was handed his first-team debut by Mourinho in Tottenham’s 5-0 win over Marine in the FA Cup third round, with the youngster marking his senior bow with a well-taken goal.
Scarlett has been on fire for the Under-18s this season, netting 13 goals in just 11 appearances so far.
The teenager, who has also scored two in three for the Under-23s, made his senior debut in Tottenham’s 4-0 win over Ludogorets in the Europa League group stages.
Mourinho has previously admitted that he feels the best talents currently in the Spurs academy are 16-year-olds instead of 18 or 19-year-olds.
It now seems apparent that the Spurs boss was taking about Devine and Scarlett as he revealed that both players are training with the Tottenham first-team.
Speaking ahead of Spurs’ clash against Chelsea, the Portuguese coach told Football.London: “Alfie Devine that leaves the group.
“In spite of working with us, he and Dane Scarlett now they work with us every day, now they go back to the academy to play.
“In this case, Devine will not be involved because Serge will occupy his place in the squad (against Chelsea).”
Spurs Web Opinion
While there seems to be plenty of expectations on the likes of Harvey White and Dennis Cirkin, it would appear that Mourinho and his coaching staff believe that Devine and Scarlett both have a higher ceiling.
