Football.London have revealed that Alfie Devine is pushing to go out on loan in order to continue his development next season.

Devine has progressed steadily since arriving at the Spurs academy in 2020, with the teenager being handed his senior debut by Jose Mourinho in the FA Cup last season.

The 17-year-old has enjoyed an outstanding campaign for Tottenham’s Under-23s, having scored nine goals and provided three assists in Premier League 2, as well as two goals in three appearances in the FA Youth Cup (Transfermarkt).

Football.London reveal that Spurs’ original plan was to keep Devine at the club next season so that he could complete three full seasons in order to register him as a club-trained player for the future.

The club reportedly turned down a loan offer from Leyton Orient last year as they felt the midfielder’s development would be better served by spending time split between the first-team training sessions and working with Wayne Burnett’s development squad.

However, it is explained that Devine’s development this season has convinced Spurs to reconsider their plans, with the North Londoners now willing to listen to loan offers for him next season in order to not hold back his progress.

The report reveals that the former Wigan youngster has expressed a desire to go out on loan.

Spurs Web Opinion

One can understand why Devine is keen to go out on loan as he looks too good for Premier League 2. However, playing in the lower leagues will be a challenge for a player who is yet to even turn 18.

Spurs should be careful in picking the right club for him who plays the style of football that would suit the teenager. The last thing we need is a Nile John-type of situation where Devine warms the bench.
