The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to offer Alfie Devine a new contract and send him out on loan this summer.

Devine has gone from strength to strength since joining the Spurs academy from Wigan two years ago.

The youngster, who scored nine goals in 17 appearances for Tottenham’s Under-23s last season (Transfermarkt), demonstrated his quality for England Under-19s in their 2-0 win over Austria on Sunday, finding the top corner from the edge of the box after an hour.

The Athletic have revealed that Tottenham hope to extend the teenager’s contract this summer and find him a suitable loan move.

The report claims that Spurs resisted loan approaches for Devine from the likes of Leyton Orient last season and had been considering keeping him at the club for another season as the midfielder can be registered as a club-trained player at the end of his third season.

However, those inside Tottenham are said to feel that the 17-year-old has outgrown youth football and needs to test himself against more experienced professionals next season.

Teams from the Championship, League One and Scottish Premiership are alleged to be keen on signing the Spurs youngster on loan.

The report adds that Antonio Conte is a big fan of Devine, which is why the midfielder was heavily involved with the first team towards the end of last season.

The Italian was said to be impressed with how seamlessly the former Wigan starlet fitted into the first-team group, in terms of both ability and attitude.

Spurs Web Opinion

We really do seem to have found a special talent in Devine. The way he was dominating Premier League 2 last season while often playing with and against players who are four or five years older than him, showed that he is more than ready to take the step up into senior football.
