Alfie Devine has still been training with the Tottenham first-team ahead of the new season, despite rumours Spurs could line up a loan move.

Devine was named on the bench by Antonio Conte in several Premier League encounters during the latter part of last season, including the 3-0 win over Arsenal.

The midfielder, along with Dane Scarlett, was a key part of the England Under-19 side that won the European Championship this summer, and as a result, neither player travelled with the Spurs squad for their pre-season trip to South Korea.

While Tottenham confirmed on Wednesday that Scarlett will be joining Portsmouth on a season-long loan, Devine continues training with the first-team at Hotspur Way.

The Athletic reported last month that Conte is a big fan of the 17-year-old as he believes the youngster has ‘something special’. The report added that the North London club had turned down loan approaches from the likes of Leyton Orient for the teenager last season.

However, it was explained that Spurs are planning on sending the midfielder out on loan for the upcoming campaign as they are of the opinion that he has outgrown youth football.

Ahead of Tottenham’s final pre-season friendly against AS Roma, Devine continues training with the first-team, and it will be interesting to see what Conte decides to do with the former Wigan youngster.

Devine is still very young at 17, which is why Spurs might be considering whether it is too early to loan the midfielder out to the lower leagues. I would not be surprised if Conte decided to keep the youngster training with the Tottenham first-team for the time being and reassess the situation in January.
