Tottenham Hotspur may decide to cash in on Eric Dier in the January transfer window, as the player does not have a place in Ange Postecoglou’s plans.
Despite being at the club since 2014, it seems Eric Dier‘s time at Tottenham could be coming to an end soon.
The 29-year-old had featured prominently under both Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte, but has been sidelined during the reign of Ange Postecoglou so far.
With the arrival and subsequent success of Micky van de Ven, it would appear Cristian Romero has found the perfect partner in the heart of the Spurs defence.
It was heavily suggested Dier would leave the club during the summer but no move materialised. So far this season, Dier is yet to play a minute of football for Spurs and didn’t even make the match-day squad for the recent win over Liverpool.
Will Eric Dier leave Tottenham in January?
With his current contract ending next summer, it is thought to be highly likely that Dier will depart within the next year. However, it now seems he may be off in January if an offer comes in.
That’s according to sources at Football Insider, who claim Spurs are “ready to accept” approaches for the England international in the new year. It is believed Tottenham want to “cash in” while they still can.
Apparently, Dier “does not feature” in Postecoglou’s plans for his squad, and the player will now “seriously consider” a switch away from North London.
The report mentions Roma as a possible destination for Dier, who could be reunited with his former coach Mourinho in Italy.
Spurs Web Opinion
It’s a shame but it does appear it’s time for Dier to move on. He’s clearly nowhere near Postecoglou’s thinking and I wouldn’t be surprised to see younger players like Ashley Phillips and Alfie Dorrington getting game time ahead of him this year. If we can sell in January, we should.
