Wales manager Robert Page has claimed Brennan Johnson is good enough to play for a top-six Premier League team with Tottenham allegedly interested in the Nottingham Forest forward.
Johnson has enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Forest and he and his side will be gearing up for this Sunday’s Championship play-off final against Huddersfield.
He scored 19 goals for Steve Cooper’s team (Transfermarkt) which was enough to earn him the Championship Young Player of the Season award (Nottingham Forest).
The 21-year-old was reportedly the subject of intense interest from Brentford, but is now being targeted by the likes of Spurs, Everton, Newcastle and West Ham ahead of the summer (Daily Mail).
And the Welsh star has been given a boost in confidence by Page, who believes Johnson can make the step up to one of the top teams in the Premier League.
Page said (via Independent): “Brennan is the future of Welsh football and I think he’s top-six [in the Premier League] now.
“He’s shown he’s got that potential and ability. I’ve seen it in him for a long time and it’s been great to watch his development.
“I think that the teams showing interest in him in January have lost out now.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Johnson has been excellent for Forest this season so it is not surprising that so many Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.
If Forest do get promoted via the play-off final, it will only increase his value given they will want to keep him next season.
Either way, it will be interesting to see how they this pans out given the Championship is a goldmine for young talent.
