The Sun have claimed that Crystal Palace have entered the race for Nottingham Forest starlet Brennan Johnson, who is also rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar ahead of the summer transfer window.
Johnson has established himself as a mainstay in Forest’s starting lineup this season and his consistent performances have been one of the main factors behind the club’s push for promotion.
The attacking midfielder has ten goals and five assists in all competitions for Steve Cooper’s side so far this campaign (Transfermarkt).
The Sun reported in December Spurs were one of the several top-flight sides to hold an interest in the 20-year-old.
However, Forest allegedly slapped a £20m price tag on the youngster’s head in January, which is thought to have put off interested clubs from pursuing the player (Sky Sports).
If Tottenham were to reignite their interest in Johnson in the summer, they could face competition from Palace, if The Sun’s latest update is to be believed. It is asserted that the Forest speedster is of interest to Brentford as well as the Eagles.
The report adds that the attacking midfielder could leave the City Ground in the summer should Forest fail to win promotion to the top flight. However, it is alleged that interested clubs would have to pay around £14m to snap up the Johnson.
Spurs Web Opinion
Johnson has looked like a special talent in the Championship and seems to have a high ceiling but there are no guarantees regarding how he will do in the Premier League.
For every Eberechi Eze and Jarrod Bowen, who have successfully made the step up to the top flight, there are others such as Emi Buendia, who have not had the same impact in the Premier League as they have in the second tier.
