Alasdair Gold has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are expected to make a move for Djed Spence irrespective of whether Nottingham Forest win promotion to the Premier League.
Forest are hoping to return to the top flight for the first time since 1999 when they go up against Huddersfield Town in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Sunday.
Spence, who is on loan from Middlesbrough, has been one of the most consistent performers for Steve Cooper’s side over the course of the campaign.
Spurs reportedly had an offer rejected by Boro for the right-back in January (90min) and the North Londoners have been backed to reignite their interest in the 21-year-old this summer (Evening Standard).
Gold has now explained on his YouTube Channel (starting at 1:17:39) that Antonio Conte’s men will make a move for Spence irrespective of the result of the play-off final.
However, the journalist said that Forest might have a better chance of signing the England Under-21 international permanently if they get promoted.
He suggested they would not be able to afford to land Spence if they remain in the Championship and the Boro starlet could push for a move to a top-flight side.
Gold added that Spurs also hold an interest in Spence’s Forest teammate Brennan Johnson but stated the attacking midfielder is also on the radars of several other clubs.

Spence would fit the bill perfectly for Spurs, given that he is homegrown, has a high resale value and is likely to be available for a low fee due to his contract situation.
However, there are no guarantees that the 21-year-old would be able to hit the ground running in the Premier League. It will also be interesting to see who Conte chooses to keep among Doherty and Emerson.
