Aside from the excitement of a big win today, Tottenham Hotspur fans have a new player to look forward to. Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about why he chose to sign Brennan Johnson.
Since Harry Kane left Spurs for Bayern Munich, there has been much talk about how the club would replace such a key attacker.
So far this season, it seems Tottenham have not missed Kane all that much. Richarlison has been leading the line for Ange Postecoglou, and while the Brazilian has only scored one goal, his work rate has impressed his new manager.
Today, against Burnley, Postecoglou chose to play Heung-min Son down the middle, and his captain repaid the faith with a sublime hat-trick on the way to a 5-2 win.
And now, after a £47.5m switch (Sky Sports) on transfer deadline day, Spurs also have Brennan Johnson to add to their already impressive attack.
Why did Postecoglou want to sign Brennan Johnson?
In his post-match press conference after the 5-2 win against Burnley, Postecoglou was asked about the signing of Johnson, and explained why he wanted the player.
He told Football.London: “Just another exciting young player. He’s a real threat in the front third and he’s a bit different to what we’ve already got. He’s young, ambitious.
“It’s no secret that that’s been the model for me, not just here but wherever I’ve gone. It’s just as much about the person you’re bringing in as the footballer.
“Looking at him, he’s going to fit in really well with this group because he’s really ambitious and hungry and he wants to take his game to another level. The technical and the physical attributes he has I think he should fit in really well with us.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I have really enjoyed the transfer activity of Spurs this summer, in signing players we know plenty about and who we can be pretty sure are ready for first-team football at this level.
Johnson has proven himself last season with Forest, and fits the profile of a young, attacking, exciting player who should slot perfectly into this Ange Postecoglou team.
