Dean Jones has said that Ivan Perisic might have already played his last game for Tottenham Hotspur now that he faces an extended spell on the sidelines.
It emerged last Wednesday that Perisic had suffered a ‘complex ACL injury’ in his right knee and the Tottenham man took to social media a couple of days ago to confirm that the operation had been successful.
According to various reports, the experienced wide-man is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months (Fabrizio Romano), which means that he might not play until late March or early April.
It was suggested by Sportske Novosti earlier this week that Tottenham verbally agreed to let the 34-year-old return to his boyhood club Hajduk Split in January while negotiating a deal with the Croatian club for 16-year-old wonderkid Luka Vuskovic.
Has Ivan Perisic played his last game for Spurs?
It remains to be seen how Perisic’s injury will affect any potential January transfer, but Jones doubts if we will see the former Inter Milan man play again for Ange Postecoglou’s side before his contract runs out next summer.
The journalist told GiveMeSport about the experienced wide-man’s injury: “I mean it’s quite sad that this is how it’s come through and given the extent of the injury that he suffered; it’s got to be a possibility that we have seen Ivan Perisic in a Tottenham shirt for the last time.
“When he came into Tottenham, I was thinking the setup that they had, at the time, he was going to be a very important player in terms of their goal output, but obviously it was only a two-year contract when he arrived.
“And with this injury, with the age that he’s at with a rehabilitation that he’s now going to have to go through, it’s going to be extremely tough for him on a personal level and Tottenham will have to decide what their expectations are of him and what his career path is going to be from there in terms of whether he has any future at the club, but a pretty sad way for that to end if that is the case.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Perisic’s injury scuppers any chance of a January transfer. The player will be hoping to return before the end of the season and play a few games so that he can go into next summer’s Euros match fit. So, I would not rule out the possibility of him playing again for Spurs.
