Five of Tottenham’s first-team stars are now into the final year of their contracts at the club, with GiveMeSport revealing that the North London club could clear close to half a million per week from their wage bill if they all leave.

Last week, we relayed a report from The Times which claimed that apart from reinforcing a couple of areas, Tottenham’s priority in the January transfer window will be to offload unwanted players.

That report listed both Hugo Lloris and Eric Dier among the players who Spurs could look to move on when the transfer window opens.

ugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur applauds the fans after the team's victory during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham could let some contracts run down

However, those two are not the only ones whose contracts run out next June, with two other goalkeepers, Fraser Forster and Brandan Austin, also into the final year of their deals.

In addition, Ivan Perisic, who is currently out with an ACL injury, will also be a free agent next June.

If none of those players signs new contracts, GiveMeSport reveals that their departures would free up 450k per week from their wage bill.

Spurs Web Opinion

Among the aforementioned players, the only one I could see signing a new contract at the club is Forster. If the 35-year-old does not show major signs of decline this season, I can see him being offered a one-year extension, with Tottenham putting off signing a backup goalkeeper until 2025.

Croatian media outlets are now claiming it is ‘inevitable’ that Ivan Perisic will return to Hajduk Split, and it’s more a matter of when, than if, the move will happen.

Ivan Perisic signed for Tottenham last summer on a free transfer to connect with his former coach, Antonio Conte.

As was the case with most of the Spurs squad, Perisic was a little underwhelming last season. Many suspected that, when Conte left the club back in March, Perisic’s own departure couldn’t be far away.

No move happened for the Croatian this summer, however, and he was retained as part of Ange Postecoglous squad for the new campaign. Largely used as a substitute, Perisic still managed to contribute two assists in the early stages of the season (Transfermarkt).

Perisic’s involvement for the entire season is at risk now, however, as he has suffered an ACL injury that could keep him out for the entire campaign (Evening Standard).

Perisic very likely to return to Croatia

Such an absence would mean that we have seen the last of Perisic in a Spurs shirt. And now, 24 Sata have been discussing the veteran’s next move.

It is not thought to be “inevitable” that Perisic will rejoin his former club, Hajduk Split. Perisic started his career there and came through the club’s academy, and it seems the only question is when he will return.

While Perisic could move in January, it is expected he will remain at Spurs rather than forgo his £9.3m per year salary. Apparently, he will only earn around 10% of this at Hajduk.

Because of this fact, the report insists Hajduk supporters should “bow to” Perisic for the financial sacrifice he will take on to return to the club.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m sure Spurs would love to get Perisic’s wages off their bill in January, but that would not benefit Hajduk or Perisic himself. He will almost definitely stay at Spurs until the end of the season and then leave on a free.

Alasdair Gold has a funny feeling that Ivan Perisic could leave Tottenham Hotspur in January despite his injury.

Perisic picked up an ACL injury which has ruled him out of action for six months, with the news coming as a major blow to Ange Postecoglou, who had relied on the experienced wide-man as an impact substitute in the first few games of the season.

With the Croat’s contract at North London running out next summer, Football Insider claimed last week that he has already played his final game for Spurs and is seeking a return to his homeland.

The outlet suggested that the 34-year-old is keen to finish his career at Hadjuk Split and has already reached a verbal agreement with his boyhood club about a potential return.

The report alleged that Tottenham have also given him the green light to do so as they do not want to stand in his way.

Has Ivan Perisic played his final Tottenham game?

Gold believes that Perisic could make that move in January even though he might not kick a ball again until next summer.

The journalist said on the Gold and Guest Talk Tottenham Podcast: “I’ll tell you who I think. I think Perisic might. I know that’s weird because he’s injured, but I just feel there must be something to this Hajduk Split, there must be something in that.

“The deal for Vuskovic has gone through where Spurs were talking to them as well. I just feel that makes sense, if he can come back and get a couple of months of football, maybe he can do it for them and get back in the Euros squad.

“I just have this funny feeling that maybe Perisic does head off to Hajduk Split because he’s not going to play for Spurs anyway.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs and Hajduk would have likely talked about Perisic during their negotiations over a deal for Vuskovic but the Croat’s injury would almost certainly affect his future. I suspect he will now return to Hajduk on a free transfer when his contract with Tottenham runs out next summer.

According to a new report on Tottenham Hotspur’s plans for the January transfer window, the priority will be signing a new left winger due to the injuries to Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic.

One thing Spurs have not struggled with so far this season is attacking. The Lilywhites have been playing fantastic football this term, and are one of the top-scorers in the division.

Ange Postecoglou has implemented his style of play very quickly since arriving in North London, and Ange-ball has helped Spurs climb to the top of the table after an unbeaten start to the new campaign.

The Tottenham squad may be flying right now, but there are some concerns over the amount, and extent, of injured players within the side.

A report from the Evening Standard revealed Brennan Johnson is out until after the international break, while fellow winger Manor Solomon could be out until the end of this year.

Worse yet, is the situation surrounding Ivan Perisic. The veteran star has been hit with an ACL injury and is likely to miss the whole season.

Tottenham Hotspur may move for Jota

With this in mind, the latest update from CaughtOffside suggests Spurs will look to sign a new left-sided winger in January. And, it seems Jota will be the target.

The former Celtic man, previously signed by Postecoglou during his time in Scotland, has been “sidelined” by Saudi side Al-Ittihad despite only joining the club in the summer.

Postecoglou’s “main priority” will be to “bolster the left flank” and there is thought to be “a potential transfer” in the pipeline for Jota come January.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m not so sure we would need to sign a new winger in January. Solomon should be back by the end of the year, and Bryan Gil has just returned from his injury, too. I’d rather see us sign a new centre-back, personally.

A new report on the injury status of key first-team players at Tottenham Hotspur has shed some light on when we can expect the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Brennan Johnson, and Manor Solomon back in action.

Things are going pretty well for Tottenham right now. With six wins and two draws from the opening eight games of this campaign, the Lilywhites head into the international break at the top of the Premier League.

At present, Spurs are thriving thanks to the attacking talent of Heung-min Son and James Maddison, while Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are forming a solid partnership in defence.

However, there is always the fear that an injury to any of these key players could derail the squad’s momentum.

Indeed, Spurs are already having to deal with a number of long-term injuries to a handful of first-team players which has left the squad looking a little thin.

Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham Hotspur arrives at the stadium

When will the injured Spurs players be back?

A piece in the Evening Standard offers an insight into when these injured players will be back to fitness and available for selection.

The one big injury still carrying over from last season is the ACL issue for Rodrigo Bentancur. Fans can’t wait to see the Uruguay international doing his thing under Ange Postecoglou, but the club are not rushing him and his return date is still scheduled for November of this year.

There is good news on Brennan Johnson, however. The new signing is out with a hamstring injury at the moment and will miss international duty with Wales, but he is almost certain to return on October 23, for the game against Fulham.

Fellow new signing, Manor Solomon, suffered a knee injury recently and has undergone surgery. There is currently “no exact timeframe” on his recovery, but he is “unlikely to play a major role” before the end of 2023, with a December return predicted.

If you thought that was bad, spare a thought for Ivan Perisic. With a complex ACL injury, it is suspected the Croatian may have “potentially played his final game for the club,” with a return to fitness not expected until summer 2024, when his contract expires.

Similarly to Bentancur, Ryan Sessegnon has been out of action since February, and is expected to return next month. He has been taking part in individual training sessions, but any involvement in wider first-team sessions is “not imminent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Once we get Brennan Johnson back, this injury list will feel a lot more manageable, and then hopefully there won’t be too long to wait until Bentancur and Sessegnon return. We just have to pray we don’t get any more injuries in the meantime.

Spurs fans have already seen the last of Ivan Perisic

The report adds that Spurs had talked about the 34-year-old with Hadjuk during the negotiations over Luka Vuskovic, with discussions between the clubs now thought to be ‘advancing’.

Spurs Web Opinion

If not for Perisic’s injury, I think there was every chance that he would have returned to Hadjuk during the January transfer window. I think the most likely scenario now is for the Croat to join his boyhood club on a free transfer next summer.

Croatian team doctor Sasa Jankovic has said that Ivan Perisic cannot run for at least another three months and that it will take much longer for him to be integrated into team training.

Although Perisic had not started a Premier League game under Ange Postecoglou, the Australian was relying on the Croat to make an impact off the bench in the first few games of the season.

It thus came as a blow to Tottenham when the 34-year-old picked up an ACL injury last week, with reports indicating he is expected to be out of action for six months (Fabrizio Romano).

Some journalists have expressed doubt over whether Perisic will kick a ball again for Spurs, given that his contract with the North London club runs out next summer (GiveMeSport).

When will Ivan Perisic play football again?

The experienced wide-man faces a race against time to be fully match-fit in time for the European Championship next summer as he remains an important part of Croatia’s set-up.

The national side’s doctor has now admitted that it would take a long time for the Spurs man to be integrated into training.

Jankovic told Gol.hr (as translated by Sport Witness): “50% is operation, 50% is rehabilitation process. He can rely on his leg in that first phase. In three to four weeks, he can ride a bike, in three months he can run. The problem is that contact with another player is not possible for a long time.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perisic is one of the most dedicated professionals in the game and he will do everything necessary to speed up his recovery. So, I would not put it beyond him to return ahead of schedule, even though he will be 35 years of age in a few months.

Dean Jones has said that Ivan Perisic might have already played his last game for Tottenham Hotspur now that he faces an extended spell on the sidelines.

It emerged last Wednesday that Perisic had suffered a ‘complex ACL injury’ in his right knee and the Tottenham man took to social media a couple of days ago to confirm that the operation had been successful.

According to various reports, the experienced wide-man is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months (Fabrizio Romano), which means that he might not play until late March or early April.

It was suggested by Sportske Novosti earlier this week that Tottenham verbally agreed to let the 34-year-old return to his boyhood club Hajduk Split in January while negotiating a deal with the Croatian club for 16-year-old wonderkid Luka Vuskovic.

Has Ivan Perisic played his last game for Spurs?

It remains to be seen how Perisic’s injury will affect any potential January transfer, but Jones doubts if we will see the former Inter Milan man play again for Ange Postecoglou’s side before his contract runs out next summer.

The journalist told GiveMeSport about the experienced wide-man’s injury: “I mean it’s quite sad that this is how it’s come through and given the extent of the injury that he suffered; it’s got to be a possibility that we have seen Ivan Perisic in a Tottenham shirt for the last time.

“When he came into Tottenham, I was thinking the setup that they had, at the time, he was going to be a very important player in terms of their goal output, but obviously it was only a two-year contract when he arrived.

“And with this injury, with the age that he’s at with a rehabilitation that he’s now going to have to go through, it’s going to be extremely tough for him on a personal level and Tottenham will have to decide what their expectations are of him and what his career path is going to be from there in terms of whether he has any future at the club, but a pretty sad way for that to end if that is the case.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Perisic’s injury scuppers any chance of a January transfer. The player will be hoping to return before the end of the season and play a few games so that he can go into next summer’s Euros match fit. So, I would not rule out the possibility of him playing again for Spurs.

Even while injured, the future of Ivan Perisic is still a hot topic around Tottenham Hotspur. Now, an old friend of his, and the physio for LASK Linz, Ivan Porobija has spoken on the matter.

Ever since joining Tottenham from Inter Milan on a free transfer last summer, it seems Ivan Perisic has been somewhat unsettled, at least according to the press.

The departure of his former manager, Antonio Conte, back in March certainly didn’t help matters.

Despite many expecting the Croatian to move on this summer, Perisic remained as part of Ange Postecoglous squad for the new campaign. He even played a part in the first six games of the season, providing two assists (Transfermarkt).

We won’t be seeing Perisic in action for a while now, however, after the veteran suffered an ACL injury in training recently. The 34-year-old has undergone surgery but will be on the sidelines until next year.

Will Perisic end up at Hajduk Split?

With Spurs signing 16-year-old defender Luka Vuskovic from Hajduk Split, there has been intense speculation that Perisic would go in the opposite direction and return to Croatia (Tportal).

Now, Perisic’s friend and Croatian physio, Ivan Porobija has discussed the speculation with Sportske Novosti.

He said: “We were alone, we talked for a while. Hajduk? We didn’t discuss any topics of the future, because Ivan is exclusively focused on recovery.

“Where that recovery will take place, Perisic will decide in cooperation with Tottenham, but the most important thing is that the doctors predict a successful recovery. This is the news that pleases everyone the most.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is not really any chance for Perisic to leave until next summer now anyway, but there is almost no doubt that he will move on then. I would be very surprised if he didn’t end up at Hajduk, as it would be ideal to bring his career full circle in that way.

Sportske Novosti have claimed that Ivan Perisic is expected to return to Hajduk Split in January as the wing-back was part of the negotiations between Tottenham and the Croatian club for Luka Vuskovic.

Tottenham confirmed on Monday that they had reached an agreement with Hajduk over the transfer of Vuskovic, who will arrive at the North London club in the summer of 2025.

Spurs revealed that the 16-year-old, who is one of the most highly rated players in the world in his age group, has agreed on a contract at N17 until 2030.

Perisic expected to move the other way

Sportske Novosti have now revealed that Daniel Levy and Hajduk president Luksa Jakobusic had been locked in negotiations for months before they finally reached an agreement for the teenager.

The publication stated that Spurs will allow Perisic to return to his boyhood club when the transfer window opens as part of the agreement.

It is alleged that the two parties reached a ‘verbal agreement’ that the 34-year-old, who is contracted to Tottenham until next summer, would be allowed to move to Stadion Poljud mid-season.

Spurs Web Opinion

This agreement would have likely been reached before Perisic suffered an ACL injury, which is expected to keep him out of at least until March or April.

In fact, I do wonder if it was Perisic’s injury that led to the delay in the announcement of the Vuskovic transfer, with the two clubs having to slightly alter the terms of the agreement.

Ivan Perisic has confirmed on social media that the operation on his ACL has been successful.

It emerged last Wednesday that Perisic had suffered a ‘complex ACL injury’ in his right knee, which would require surgery.

According to various reports, the experienced wide-man is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months (Fabrizio Romano), which means that he might not play until late March or early April.

The news certainly comes as a blow for Tottenham as although Perisic had not started a Premier League game this season, he had proved a very useful impact substitute for Ange Postecoglou.

The Spurs head coach admitted last week that the development was extremely disappointing and added that he had been impressed with the Croat’s professionalism in the short time that they have had together (Football.London).

Step one complete: Ivan Perisic has his knee surgery

Perisic will be targeting a return to full fitness ahead of the European Championship next summer and his road to recovery has now seemingly begun after the 34-year-old confirmed on Instagram stories that his operation has been successful.

Spurs Web Opinion

Given Perisic’s mindset and his professionalism, there is no doubt that he will do everything in his power to return to action as soon as possible. However, the chances of him kicking a ball again for Tottenham look quite slim at the moment.

Hajduk Split goalkeeper Vladimir Balic has said that he would like the Croatian club to re-sign Ivan Perisic despite his injury.

It emerged on Tuesday that Perisic had picked up an ACL injury in his right knee, with reports indicating that the Croat is now expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months (Fabrizio Romano).

That is undoubtedly a big blow for Ange Postecoglou, who has relied on Perisic to come off the bench as a second-half substitute in all five Premier League games so far this season.

The 34-year-old had been linked with a return to his boyhood club, Hajduk Split recently, with Slobodna Dalmacija even claiming last week that Luka Vuskovic’s move to Spurs could open the door for the experienced wide-man to move in the other direction.

Hajduk goalkeeper Balic has now said that he would welcome the Tottenham man to the Croatian club in January, even though he is not expected to be back in action until April or March.

Could Ivan Perisic’s Tottenham career be over?

He told Sportske Novosti (as relayed by Sport Witness): “We would like him [Perisic] to come healthy, but if he comes injured, we will be happy.

“We will see what kind of work he will be able to offer, but if he comes, his image will be here, and his image is very big in Croatian football.

“He would certainly be an incentive for our youngsters who are currently not in Hajduk but will return from the loan and be a constant at the club.”

Spurs Web Opinion

This injury has ended any chance of Spurs selling Perisic in January and has essentially guaranteed that he will leave on a free transfer next summer. I would not be surprised if we do not see the Croat in a Tottenham shirt again.

Croatia’s head coach Zlatko Dalic has backed Ivan Perisic to make a full recovery after it emerged earlier this week that the Tottenham man had suffered an ACL injury.

Tottenham officially confirmed on Wednesday that Perisic had suffered a ‘complex ACL injury’ in his right knee, which would require surgery.

According to various reports, the experienced wide-man is expected to be out of action for a minimum of six months (Fabrizio Romano), which means that he might not play until late March or early April.

The Croat, who played a key role in the build-up to Spurs’ late match-winner against Sheffield United on Saturday, now faces a race against time to be fully fit in time for next summer’s European Championship.

Ivan Perisic is expected to bounce back from injury

However, Dalic is confident that the 34-year-old will make a full recovery before the tournament.

The Croatian head coach told Sportske: “Knowing his dedication and physical capacities, I’m convinced that he’ll make a superb recovery and reach the desired form by June.

“I cannot and do not want to imagine our national team without Ivan, we are all with him, and we’re very much looking forward to seeing him again in a representative environment.

“I wish him a successful operation, then a quality recovery and a return to the field so that he can do what he knows best – lead Croatia to great victories.”

Croatian Football Federation president Marijan Kustic insisted that Perisic will get all the support he needs to recover fully from the injury.

He said: “We were all saddened by this news about Ivan’s knee injury, primarily because of him, but also because we all saw against Latvia and Armenia how well he is in good shape and with how much enthusiasm, desire and motivation he still performs for the Croatian national team.

“However, I’m encouraged by his positive and determined attitude, and we all know how carefully and dedicatedly he works on his physical preparation, and there is no doubt that he will perform his recovery with maximum quality.

“Therefore, I deeply believe that he’ll welcome the Euros fully healthy and in the right shape, and that he will be one of the players and character leaders of our team in Germany, as he has been for the past ten years.

“Ivan can count on maximum support from the Association during his recovery, I know that the entire national team is with him and we can’t wait for him to be with us again. From the bottom of my heart, I wish him a successful operation and an equally successful recovery.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It can be hard to recover and get back to your previous levels when a player gets an ACL injury when he is 34 years of age. However, Perisic certainly appears determined to work his way back to full fitness, with the Euros next summer being a massive motivator for the Croat.

Speaking to the press ahead of the weekend’s action, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou has shared his thoughts on Ivan Perisic’s injury.

So far, Ange Postecoglou has managed to be fairly fortunate when it comes to injuries in his new squad at Tottenham. Aside from the odd issue with the likes of Bryan Gil, and of course, the lingering absence of Rodrigo Bentancur, the coach has had a full complement to pick from.

The summer was a period of great transition for the Spurs squad, with plenty of new faces arriving, and just as many heading out the exit door.

One player who many are surprised is still with the club, is Ivan Perisic. The Croatian has remained as part of Postecoglou’s squad, and has actually been involved in all six games so far this season, contributing two assists (Transfermarkt).

Sadly, the 34-year-old will not be playing for quite some time. The club announced earlier this week that Perisic had suffered an ACL injury and would require surgery, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting he could be out for up to six months as a result.

Postecoglou says Spurs will miss Ivan Perisic

In his latest press conference (via Football.London), Postecoglou has commented on the setback and how it will affect the Spurs squad.

He said: “Yeah, disappointing, first of all for Ivan more than anything else. Just one of those innocuous things that can happen in training. I’ve only worked with him for a while but you can see why he’s been at the top for so many years.

“It’s been really disappointing for us as well as because he’s been great for us and we don’t have a lot of experience in the group and he’s a real level head. He’s very strong-willed and I have no doubt that he’ll be back for club and country and stronger than ever.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Any manager is going to miss someone like Perisic, even if he isn’t a regular starter now. He had made a decent start to the season in this more peripheral role, and could have been very useful throughout the campaign as an experienced head in attack.

Ivan Perisic has taken to Instagram to send a positive message to the Tottenham fans, thanking them for their support following his ACL injury news.

Pedro Porro also shared words of encouragement with Ivan Perisic on social media, after his Tottenham Hotspur teammate was ruled out with a knee injury.

Many had suspected Ivan Perisic to be on his way out of Spurs this summer. The veteran Croatian joined the club on a free transfer last year to link up with his former boss, Antonio Conte.

With Conte gone, and Perisic not seeming to fit into new coach, Ange Postecoglou‘s plans, it seemed his brief stay in North London would be over.

Perisic has been strongly linked with a return to his first club, Hajduk Split. The club’s goalkeeper, Ognjen Cancareviceven told Germanijak that he has spoken to the Spurs man about a potential switch.

However, Perisic remained with the Lilywhites and has proven to be a fairly useful asset so far this season. The 34-year-old has contributed two assists in six appearances (Transfermarkt), but he will not play again for quite some time.

Ivan Perisic vows not to give up despite injury blow

The club announced yesterday that Perisic has suffered an ACL injury and will require surgery. According to Fabrizio Romano, the issue could keep Perisic out for up to six months.

Upon hearing the news, Tottenham wing-back Pedro Porro took to Instagram to share his support for his teammate.

Porro wrote: “Good recovery, brother. We will fight for you!”

In fact, Maddison, Porro, Emerson Royal, Udogie, Højbjerg, Solomon, Van de Ven, Kulusevski and Vicario all took to social media to send messages of support to their friend.

Perisic then took to Instagram himself to post the following message:

To say Perisic was all but ready to leave the club this summer, it’s nice to see that he is still well-liked in the dressing room and has the backing of his teammates. Hopefully, he can get back to full fitness soon and enjoy the final years of his career.

Ivan Perisic has suffered an ACL injury in training this week, and now Fabrizio Romano has confirmed the Tottenham Hotspur man is likely to be out of action for around five-to-six months.

Signed on a free transfer last summer, Ivan Perisic came to Tottenham carrying big expectations on his shoulders. It was thought the Croatian star could link up with his former manager, Antonio Conte, and provide the kind of winning mentality and experience needed to improve the Spurs squad.

The veteran provided 12 assists in all competitions during a difficult season for the Lilywhites but only managed to score one goal (Transfermarkt).

With Conte leaving the club at the end of March, it was heavily suggested that Perisic would be on his way out this summer, too. No transfer came to fruition during the transfer window, and the 34-year-old has since featured in every game under new coach, Ange Postecoglou, so far this season, registering two assists (Transfermarkt).

However, it is thought Perisic’s future is still uncertain and he was expected to weigh up a move in the summer of 2024 when his contract expires (Evening Standard).

Ivan Perisic hopes to be back by March or April

Now, it has been announced that Perisic has suffered a ‘complex anterior cruciate ligament’ injury in his right knee and will require surgery.

Thanks to Fabrizio Romano, we now know just how serious that injury is likely to be for Perisic. He said: “Ivan Perisić has torn his ACL — he will miss the next 5/6 months as Tottenham confirm.

“Perisić, fantastic professional who’ll now work hard to be back and help Spurs in March/April… then Euro 2024 with Croatia, feeling he can do it. Wishing him speedy recovery!”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s never nice to hear about injuries, particularly ACL injuries as they can be so damaging to a player’s career. Perisic was contributing fairly well to the new set-up at Spurs, too, so it’s a real shame to know he will miss so much of the season.

Hopefully, he can come back and finish his work with Tottenham before heading out to Euro 2024 for what I assume would be his last international tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur have announced that Ivan Perisic has suffered a ‘complex anterior cruciate ligament’ injury in his right knee.

Perisic is said to have sustained the injury during non-impact training and will now require surgery to fix the problem, which comes as a huge blow to Tottenham and Ange Postecoglou.

While Perisic has been far from a regular starter under Postecoglou so far in North London, he has been a trusted experienced head to bring on during the latter stages of matches.

Ivan Perisic

Ivan Perisic could be sidelined for a long time

In fact, the Croatian has had a devastating influence towards the end of games, none more so than the late turnaround against Sheffield United where he assisted one goal and played a hand in setting up the winner.

Tottenham suffered an ACL injury to Rodrigo Bentancur back in February and the Uruguayan still hasn’t returned to full first-team training, so it could be a long way back for Perisic.

Spurs Web Opinion:

A complicated ACL injury is about as bad as it gets in football. It’s too early to say, but we could be talking about a year out here. Just as Perisic’s Tottenham career was really taking shape in an attacking Postecoglou team, it gets taken away. Such a shame for Spurs and Ivan. We would like to wish him all the best with his recovery.

Croatian journalist Tomislav Dasovic has written in his column for Vecernji List that Ivan Perisic should leave Tottenham as soon as possible as the environment is not conducive to helping the experienced wide-man achieve success.

Following Ange Postecoglou’s appointment, many would have expected Perisic to be one of the first players out of the door at Tottenham this summer as the 34-year-old was not seen as a very good fit for the Australian’s high-intensity approach.

Ivan Perisic

However, not only has Postecoglou kept the former Inter Milan at the club but he has also demonstrated that he counts on him, with the player coming on as a second-half substitute in all four of Spurs’ Premier League matches so far.

Perisic shone for Croatia during the international break, picking up two assists and playing a key hand in another goal as the East European nation thrashed Latvia 5-0 last week.

Dasovic thinks Ivan Perisic should leave Tottenham

However, Dasovic believes that the winger, who has 129 caps for his country, should leave the North London club as soon as possible.

He says that Perisic is ‘missing minutes, goals and trophies’ at Tottenham, which is why his career has suffered since joining them.

The journalist adds that the Lilywhites are a club on a ‘downward trajectory’ and the situation there is ‘unstable’. Finally, Dasovic asserts that it is ‘not a healthy environment’ for Perisic and he urgently needs a new challenge elsewhere.

Spurs Web Opinion

Spurs fans should not pay too much attention to these comments. Dasovic’s words must be viewed in the context of Perisic being one of Croatia’s superstars and the journalist being concerned that he will not be at his best when the European championship rolls around next summer.

Speaking to the press after his side continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign, Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou revealed his thinking behind the substitutions he made during the win over Sheffield United.

Tottenham went into the international break with three wins and a draw from the first four games of the new league season, with Ange Postecoglou making an instant impact at the club.

A home game against newly-promoted Sheffield United this afternoon would look, on paper at least, to be a straightforward three points for Spurs. That wasn’t the case on the day, however, with the Blades pushing the Lilywhites all the way to the 110th minute.

Despite Tottenham dominating possession and having the lion’s share of the chances, Sheffield United took the lead after 73 minutes. With his side trailing, Postecoglou brought on new boy Brennan Johnson, Ivan Perisic, and Richarlison in the 80th minute, and all three had a say in the final result.

Dejan Kulusevski

Postecoglou explains his super subs

Johnson had a goal disallowed shortly after coming on, but Richarlison found the back of the net in the 98th minute to level the scores thanks to an assist from Ivan Perisic. Richarlison then set up Dejan Kulusevski for the winner two minutes later.

On his decision to change things, Postecoglou told Football.London: “I was thinking that [there would be a lot of added time when deciding when to use the subs] although I was worried when I saw just three minutes in the first half. We were still on top while they were dangerous from long throws and set pieces. I was conscious that there might be 10 minutes at the end at least.”

Spurs Web Opinion

It’s always satisfying to see substitutions working like they did today, and I think it’s just further proof that Spurs have really good strength in depth right now. This is particularly evident in attacking areas, and it seems we can look to the bench and have a few different options to change a game now.

Andrej Kramaric has insisted that he has no doubt that Ivan Perisic will end his recent goal drought for Croatia soon and dismissed suggestions that there are tensions between him and the Tottenham man.

Many at Spurs expected Perisic to be one of the first players out of the door when Ange Postecoglou took over in the summer, with the wide man not being seen as a good fit for the Australian’s high-intensity approach.

However, it is a testament to the 34-year-old’s fitness that not only has Postecoglou kept him at the club but he has also relied on him, with the Spurs head coach bringing the former Inter Milan star on as a second-half substitute in all four Premier League games this season.

Perisic impressed during the international break for Croatia, setting up two of the side’s goals and having a hand in another as they emerged 5-0 winners over Latvia last week.

Ivan Perisic is a well-respect player in the game

There is some concern that the experienced star has not found the back of the net for his country since scoring in the World Cup clash against Japan last year.

However, Kramaric insisted that there is nothing to be worried about with Perisic and dismissed suggestions that he and the Spurs star do not get along.

The Hoffenheim forward told Vecernji (as relayed by Sport Witness): “I am not worried about Perisic at all. He is a maximum professional and a top guy, I know very well how much character he has, what kind of mentality he has.

“And what was written before about our relationship was really funny to me. There were no tensions between Ivan and me, we respect each other immensely, we have a very good relationship, we never really had any problems with each other.

“In football, sometimes everything happens so fast on the field that sometimes you don’t even see a teammate in a better position.

“But considering that he has played a million games for the national team, he will play many more and there will surely come a moment when he will score a goal. After all, he already scored in very important matches.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Perisic will want to play for Croatia in next summer’s European championship as he is certainly not showing any massive signs of physical decline at the moment.
