Brennan Johnson became Tottenham Hotspur’s ninth and final signing of the summer transfer window on deadline day, and the youngster has been reflecting on what this move means for his career.
An eventful transfer window was wrapped up with a fairly steady deadline day for Spurs, but the one big move the club wanted to complete was that of bringing Brennan Johnson to North London.
After pursuing the Welshman for much of the summer, Spurs finally struck a deal worth a reported £47.5m for the former Nottingham Forest star (Sky Sports).
Born and raised in Nottingham, Johnson came through the Forest academy and made 109 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and providing 12 assists over the years (Transfermarkt).
Despite only being 22 years old, Johnson had established himself as a key player and a fan favourite at Forest. The winger played a crucial role in helping the club rise to the Premier League, and also in keeping them there last season.
Brennan Johnson is buzzing to join Spurs
Speaking to the club website upon his move to Tottenham, Johnson commented on his journey so far and how he feels about joining the Lilywhites.
He said: “It was a dream come true to play for Nottingham Forest’s first team, being from the area I really enjoyed every minute of playing for them. It was really special, but I felt now was the right time to really try and kick on and I’m buzzing to be here at Spurs.
“The way the club’s going at the minute it feels like it’s in such a good moment and going in the right direction.
“Everyone’s onboard, the fans are unbelievable, the manager has come in and the players have got behind him so at this moment in time it was the perfect decision for me and something I wanted to be involved in.”
Spurs Web Opinion
This feels like a very natural and exciting career step for a player like Brennan Johnson, and what I love is that he sounds genuinely delighted to be at the club. He is a perfect signing for Spurs and should slot into our new-look system with ease.
