In his first interview as a Spurs player, Brennan Johnson has lauded the exciting, attacking football the team has been playing since Ange Postecoglou arrived at the club.
For the last few years, under Jose Mourinho and particularly Antonio Conte, Tottenham’s identity was lost a little as defensive football replaced the more free-flowing game Spurs fans like to see.
With Ange Postecoglou at the helm, goals are back on the menu and the supporters appear to be very happy. So too, does the squad, with many players back to their best after faltering form last season.
The latest player to join that squad is Brennan Johnson. The youngster arrived from Nottingham Forest on transfer deadline day in a deal worth a reported £47.5m (Sky Sports).
In a recent press conference, Postecoglou explained why he wanted to sign Johnson. The Australian described his new star as an “exciting young player” who is “ambitious and hungry,” and also stated his belief that the Welshman will suit his style of football.
Johnson likes what he has seen of Spurs this season
When asked about Tottenham’s approach to playing the game right now, Johnson admitted he has been impressed with what he has seen so far.
He told the club website: “I’ve been really impressed. I’ve managed to watch two of the games against Bournemouth and Brentford on the opening day and the style of play has been incredible. I think all the players have got behind it and you can really see them coming together.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Brennan Johnson should relish playing in our system, and I have a feeling it will suit him down to the ground. He’s the kind of player who loves to take on his opponent and get in dangerous areas, and that’s exactly what Ange is asking his team to do. This should be a match made in heaven!
