The Athletic’s David Ornstein has revealed that his sources at Everton expect Richarlison to end up at Tottenham before the transfer window closes.

Reports first emerged earlier this week that Spurs were set to launch an offer for Richarlison (90 min).

Ornstein was one of the first to react to the story, with the journalist revealing that the North London club do hold an interest in the Brazilian but would only sign him for the right fee.

Brazilian publication UOL subsequently claimed that the race for Richarlison was between Spurs and Chelsea, with the striker having made up his mind to leave Goodison Park.

However, Fabrizio Romano told CaughtOffside that the Toffees will only let the former Watford man leave for a fee of around €70m- €75m (£60m-£64.2m).

Ornstein has now provided an update on Tottenham’s pursuit of Richarlison, explaining that Antonio Conte’s men will not meet Everton’s current asking price.

However, he suggested that the Merseysiders might be forced to lower their valuation due to their financial situation.

The journalist told The Athletic UK’s YouTube channel: “Yes, there is some interest from Tottenham, but no, they’re not in negotiations with Everton yet – that may follow, of course.

“At this point in time, Everton are setting an extremely high asking price for Richarlison. Tottenham won’t come to the level of finance that Everton would be looking for at this point.

“But, there are a number of people around the game who think that with Everton’s financial position, they may, as the window goes on, get squeezed into accepting a lower figure for him, and that’s when Tottenham might feel that they can pounce.

“And, when you speak to certain sources around Everton, they think this move will end up happening by the end of the transfer window.”

Spurs Web Opinion

A striker is arguably not as big a priority as a left centre-back and a right wing-back.

So, one would think that Spurs would be patient and would not mind waiting until the final few weeks of the window if they think they would get a better deal.

Everton do have to sell players if Lampard wants to bring in his targets, and the Toffees will likely soften their stance.
