Ange Postecoglou has said that even though Richarlison found the back of the net against Fulham, the forward’s overall performances have been better in other matches this season.
As one would expect, the spotlight has firmly been on Richarlison since Harry Kane’s departure, with the Brazilian having the unenviable task of having to fill the shoes of Spurs‘ record goalscorer.

The pressure was evidently starting to tell on the 26-year-old, particularly in the clash at the Vitality Stadium, where he looked a frustrated figure after failing to convert a couple of gilt-edged chances.
The forward finally managed to get off the mark for the season on Tuesday as he met Ivan Perisic’s far-post cross with a well-directed header across goal to draw Spurs level in the second half against Fulham.
However, the strike was ultimately not enough to keep Tottenham in the Carabao Cup as they were knocked out by the Cottagers in a penalty shootout.
Postecoglou admitted that Richarlison very much needed that goal, but he insisted that the forward was one of several Spurs stars who delivered under-part displays on the night.
Postecoglou is not worried by lack of forward goals
The Australian told Football.London about the former Everton star’s performance against Fulham: “I guess because everyone’s been talking about it it’s great for him to score a goal but I think he’s played better for us in the other games.
“I get why other people look at that and I understand that but for me, it’s about contributing to our football, how we play.
“I thought we gave away the ball a bit too much tonight, not just him but a few players in that boat. It’s an important part of our game and that’s the stuff I want Richy to improve on.
“I think the goals will come. Our strikers, our attacking players will get opportunities to score. Our all-round games is much more important at this stage.”

I agree with Postocoglou that Richarlison’s overall performances against Brentford and Man Utd were much better than the one who delivered against Fulham.
However, rightly or wrongly, strikers are judged on goals and it will certainly be a huge weight off the 26-year-old’s shoulders to have found the back of the net on Tuesday.
