Journalist Paul Brown has said that Tottenham Hotspur are not too worried about Richarlison and expect him to turn his fortunes around.
Richarlison had a disappointing first season at Spurs following his big-money switch from Everton last summer, suffering multiple injuries, being played out of position, and even having a public squabble with Antonio Conte last season (Mirror).
Tottenham fans would have hoped that the 26-year-old would be like a new signing this campagin, much like Yves Bissouma has proven to be, but that has not materialised so far.
If anything, the Brazilian appears to be struggling even more, with the pressure of having to fill Harry Kane’s shoes starting to tell on him.
Richarlison’s troubles have continued into the international break, with the forward pictured in tears on the bench during the Selecao’s 5-1 win over Bolivia after missing a gilt-edged chance to find the back of the net.
Tottenham will not be worried about Richarlison
Brown believes that the former Everton man will be able to prove his worth to Ange Postecoglou’s men this season if he is given opportunities to rebuild his confidence.
The journalist told GiveMeSport: “I don’t think Spurs are worried about Richarlison. Personally, from watching him play this season, I was a bit concerned about his body language.
“His head seemed to go down in the Bournemouth game that I was at. He looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders at the moment. I don’t think the emotions he showed on international duty look great. We don’t really know why he was upset in that way.
“It’s never nice to see a player reacting like that. But it shows that Richarlison cares, I still think there’s a great player there. And if Spurs persist with him and stay patient, I think he will find the net before long and I think the goals will come for him.
“He’s obviously just not in a very good place at the moment and needs to rebuild some of his confidence, but I think he will do that given time.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Richarlison is certainly a better player than he has shown over recent weeks. However, my concern is that the Brazilian is not going to get too many starts over the coming months, given how well Son performed in the number nine role.
The fact that we do not have European football and are out of the Carabao Cup means that the 26-year-old now faces an extended spell on the bench, which could further dent his confidence.
