Southampton may be forced into selling several of their top stars this summer if they fail to secure a buyer for the club, according to a report from The Daily Star.

It is claimed that the Saints’ finances have been hit particularly hard as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The club’s Chinese owner, Gao Jisheng, is said to be desperate to sell his 80 per cent stake in the club and is reportedly willing to do so for a cut-price £150 million.

If Jisheng cannot find a buyer in the next few months, it is said that the club will be forced into a fire sale of many of their top players.

Saints skipper Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham in recent weeks (Football Insider), is said to be one of the players likely to leave.

Additionally, striker Danny Ings, who Tottenham reportedly tried to sign during the January transfer window (Daily Star), is also expected to available if the club is not bought by a new owner.

Spurs could thus have an opportunity to land two of their rumoured targets for a cut-price deal in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

The Hojbjerg move sounds like it is destined to happen given that he perfectly fits the profile of what we need. However, I would suspect that Ings wouldn’t be too keen on coming to Spurs and playing second fiddle to Kane, particularly after how his move to Liverpool turned out. If Southampton are forced into a fire sale, I would also be tempted to put in offers for Sofiane Boufal and Ryan Bertrand as I believe both can be decent squad players for us.
