Tottenham Hotspur will have to be extremely savvy in their spending this summer due to the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic and existing stadium loan repayments.
The Telegraph recently reported that Spurs may not be able to spend any money unless they sell players this summer.
Therefore, we thought we would have a go at designing the dream transfer window for the Lilywhites without breaking the bank.
First up, Tottenham simply must secure a new defensive midfielder after Waynama left the club this year. The prime candidate for us is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
With Walker-Peters seemingly surplus to requirements in North London and on loan at the Saints, a swap deal seems sensible.
Seeing as Hojbjerg has just one year remaining on his contract and Walker-Peters is still only 23, we can see Spurs offering a player plus £5m deal.
Tottenham would then likely need a new right-back and they should look no further than Max Aarons. Norwich City are likely to go down to the Championship this season and will be negatively affected by the COVID-19 pandemic as a relatively small club.
Spurs should take advantage and secure a young up-and-coming full-back with Premier League experience for just £18m.
We would also like to see the Lilywhites cash in on Serge Aurier, as the Ivorian would likely not agree to play second fiddle to Aarons anyway. With his pedigree and experience, Aurier should fetch a similar price to Aarons, £18m.
Japhet Tanganga could then act as a second-choice right-back, or Spurs could snap up Nathan Ferguson on a free from West Brom when his contract expires in the summer. That would give them two young and exciting right-backs to challenge each other.
On the left side, Ben Davies, Ryan Sessegnon, Dennis Cirkin, and Japhet Tanganga provide four options, allowing Spurs to sell Danny Rose for £10m in the summer.
This should free up some funds for further signings. We would like to see Philippe Coutinho arrive on loan with recent reports indicating this would cost £8m. This could also include an option to buy for next summer.
Spurs also need a new back-up striker, with recent reports claiming that Vedat Muriqi may be available for just £8.9m (Todofichajes – as relayed by Sports Mole).
With Eric Dier moving to central defence, Japhet Tanganga breaking through, and the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld, Spurs should be able to scrape by for another season. The club can also offload Juan Foyth for a £10m fee. Cameron Carter-Vickers could also be used to collect another £1.5m or so.
Ryan Fraser would also represent an attractive free signing option for Spurs, with a far lower wage than someone like Willian from Chelsea.
If Tottenham do want to push the boat out with another exciting signing, then a £20m deal for Eberechi Eze would be the one. However, a savvy Levy should get a deal signed for him to join in the summer of 2021, giving him another season at QPR but securing the deal.
