Speaking to the Evening Standard, Harry Kane has revealed he could have an advantage over his Spurs teammate Hugo Lloris if he needs to take a penalty against the French goalkeeper in the World Cup quarter-final later today.

It’s been a strong tournament for the two nations so far, with both England and France topping their respective groups before completing comprehensive victories in the last 16 to get to this stage.

For England captain Kane, tonight’s game will see him come up against his club teammate and France captain Lloris. Kane will be looking to add to his tally of 52 international goals (Transfermarkt) and the battle between the two will be a key factor in deciding who progresses.

Kane is one of the best penalty-takers in the world, and his 57 goals from the spot for club and country prove that (Transfermarkt). There’s every chance that skill will come in handy tonight.

For anyone worried Lloris may have some inside information on his opponent from their time at Spurs, fear not – Kane has revealed he very rarely actually practises penalties against Lloris.

He said: “Surprisingly, I haven’t practised too much against Hugo, normally when I practice it would be against the second or third-choice [Spurs] goalkeeper. The starting goalkeeper usually doesn’t join in practice the day before the game which is when I practice the majority.

“I’ve taken them before but loads and loads haven’t been taken [against Lloris]. Against any goalkeeper – I have similar situations when I face England goalkeepers – I just stick to my process and routine and go through my training the day before the game and hopefully try and deliver when called upon.”

We all know how good Kane is from the spot and you’d have to back him to put away a penalty if called upon. That said, I really hope the game doesn’t go to penalties, because the stress of that would be too much for me watching at home.
