SampNews24 have waxed lyrical about Harry Winks’ performances over the last few months but suggest that Sampdoria would not be able to keep the midfielder beyond the end of the season, given their current predicament.
Winks missed the entirety of the first half of the campaign due to an ankle injury but the midfielder has not looked back since returning to full fitness, having been Sampdoria’s most consistent performer over the last couple of months.
With regular game time under his belt, the 27-year-old is showing glimpses of the kind of potential we saw from him at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino.
SampNews24 have now described Winks as the Serie A club’s ‘best signing of the season’, even though they concede that his future lies away from Genoa.
This is because Sampdoria do not have an option to buy Winks permanently and are currently staring at the prospect of relegation to Serie B, sitting 11 points from safety.
So, even though the England international is thought to have enjoyed his time at Genoa, he is expected to return to Spurs this summer.
The publication describes Sampdoria’s inability to negotiate the renewal of a loan or a permanent deal for Winks as a ‘real pity’.
Spurs Web Opinion
The style of football in Serie A suits Winks as he is getting more time on the ball in the middle of the park.
I would expect plenty of Serie A clubs to show interest in the 27-year-old this summer, given how well he has performed in a struggling side over the last few months.
