Tottenham Hotspur have now confirmed the sale of Harry Winks to Leicester City as the academy graduate moves in the opposite direction to James Maddison in a completely separate transfer.
Reports had already indicated that the two sides had come to a £10m agreement for the transfer of Winks, with the midfielder having been sent out on loan last season (BBC).
After Antonio Conte decided the 27-year-old was not in his plans, Spurs sent Winks to Sampdoria in Serie A, where he struggled with a serious injury until mid-way through the season.
However, the Spurs midfielder actually ended up impressing in the engine room for the Italian side, even if they failed to avoid relegation from the top flight.
Harry Winks departs Tottenham for Leicester City
Since breaking into the Tottenham first-team under Mauricio Pochettino, Winks played over 200 times for Spurs, scoring five goals in that time (TransferMarkt). He also played ten times for England and even scored an international goal (TransferMarkt).
He will be remembered fondly for his masterclass against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu, while he also started for Spurs in the 2019 Champions League Final against Liverpool.
Spurs Web Opinion:
Everyone at The Spurs Web would like to wish Harry the best of luck in the next chapter of his career. We fully expect him to boss the Championship and be back in the Premier League next season. One of our own.
