The Times claim that Chelsea have decided to withdraw from the race to sign Brennan Johnson after hearing that the Nottingham Forest star prefers to join Tottenham.
Earlier this week, we relayed a report from The Daily Mail, which claimed that Johnson prefers to join Spurs over Chelsea since the forward is prioritising regular game time at his next club.
However, The Independent subsequently revealed on Thursday morning that Tottenham are far from striking a deal for the 22-year-old, with Forest showing no inclination to drop their £40m asking price.
Chelsea drop out of race for Brennan Johnson
If The Times’ latest update is to be believed, Spurs might now have a free run at Johnson as the Blues have decided not to push ahead with a move for the versatile attacker.
The report adds that Tottenham are willing to send some of their unwanted players to Forest as part of the operation while they are also open to completing a cash-only deal for the talented youngster.
The outlet asserts that Steve Cooper’s side are now resigned to the likelihood that Johnson will leave the City Ground before the transfer window closes.

All signs suggest that Tottenham will get the Johnson deal over the line before the transfer deadline. As things stand, it appears like Spurs are aiming to secure Johnson, Orban and one centre-back.
However, the Lilywhites are now in a race against time to get their unwanted players out of the door over the next few days to free up space in the squad for new arrivals.
