The Evening Standard journalist Nizaar Kinsella has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to snap up Trevoh Chalobah as Chelsea are only willing to loan out the centre-back.

Antonio Conte reiterated in his press conference on Saturday that Spurs will be in the market for replacements if any of their first-team players leave before the transfer window closes (Football.London).

Reports over the last few days have indicated that Tottenham are open to offloading Japhet Tanganga, with Milan thought to be leading the race for the defender (CalcioMercato).

Chalobah has been mooted as a potential replacement, with The Evening Standard reporting over the weekend that Tottenham were competing with Roma and Inter Milan for the Chelsea man’s services.

However, Kinsella has now offered an update on the 23-year-old’s future, stating that Thomas Tuchel’s side are only willing to loan out the youngster and are not considering a permanent sale.

The journalist adds that a move across London to Spurs is thus unlikely for the Blues academy graduate, with RB Leipzig also thought to have entered the race for the defender.

Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Chelsea are only looking to loan out Chalobah, with the journalist adding that AC Milan are the latest club to enter the race for the centre-back.

While bringing in a replacement for Gil will be comparatively straightforward, replacing Tanganga will not be easy, given that Spurs have to be mindful of the homegrown quota for the Champions League.

We have not been linked heavily with any central defenders over the past couple of weeks. So, it is anybody’s guess at this point who will replace Tanganga if the 23-year-old departs.
