The Daily Mail’s Sami Mokbel has claimed that Tottenham could make a shock move for Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah before the 11 pm transfer deadline.
With Japhet Tanganga having joined Augsburg earlier today and with speculation continuing to link Davinson Sanchez (L’Equipe) and Eric Dier (The Athletic) with moves away from Hotspur Way, unsurprisingly, Spurs are reported to be in the market for centre-halves.
However, a deal for the North London club’s alleged top target, Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly, looks difficult to do, with Football.London’s Alasdair Gold revealing a couple of hours ago that the Cherries are extremely reluctant to sell the player.
Tottenham could make late move for Trevor Chalobah
Mokbel has now asserted that Tottenham could make a move for another 24-year-old English centre-half in the form of Chalobah.
The Blues academy graduate is currently out with a thigh injury and has thus not featured yet for Mauricio Pochettino’s men this season, and according to Mokbel, Spurs have explored a late deal to prise the versatile defender away from Stamford Bridge.
The journalist told The Mail’s Transfer Deadline Livestream: “Just going back to Forest, Trevoh Chalobah. His versatility, we know all about it he can play across the back four and he can even play in the midfield.
“I had a tip this morning that even Tottenham have had a dalliance with him over the past 48 hours. Can you explain how Steve Cooper might use him if they can get this deal over the line?
“A lot will depend now on Palhinha moving forward, Hojbjerg, Chalobah – now he can’t go to Bayern Munich, he could be going to Forest or potentially Tottenham we hear.”
Spurs Web Opinion
Chalobah would be a decent fit for Postecoglou’s system and would be a capable replacement for Davinson Sanchez but I doubt Pochettino would let the 24-year-old leave Chelsea.
Besides, I am not sure that the centre-back will be too keen on making the move to Spurs since he would be aware that he is unlikely to be a guaranteed starter in N17.
