Transfer deadline day is always full of surprising moves, and it seems Tottenham Hotspur are ‘tentatively exploring’ the idea of signing Trevoh Chalobah from London rivals Chelsea.
Tottenham have already made eight signings this summer, including the deals to make Dejan Kulusevski and Pedro Porro permanent Spurs players.
The Lilywhites are close to making Brennan Johnson their ninth new addition, too, with the Welshman having completed his medical (Michael Bridge).
A key area Tottenham have been looking to reinforce during the transfer window is the defence. After a poor showing at the back in the 2022/23 campaign, the fact that Spurs have only signed Micky van de Ven so far is a little surprising.
Fulham’s Tosin Adarabioyo has been consistently linked with the North London club (Sky Sports). Meanwhile, any murmur of a move for Edmond Tapsoba appears to have gone cold after such strong links earlier in the summer (GiveMeSport).
Could Trevoh Chalobah sign for Spurs?
Now, a new name has emerged as Tottenham continue to look for a new defender before the transfer window closes, with Sky Sports claiming Trevoh Chalobah is a player Spurs are discussing.
Apparently, Tottenham are “exploring a possible late deal” for the Chelsea defender and “initial contacts have been made between the clubs.”
On the situation, Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas said Spurs were “tentatively” looking into the possibility of signing the 24-year-old.
Thomas mentions how, despite “not many deals” being carried out between Tottenham and Chelsea in the past, the “new regime” at Stamford Bridge could be more open to the idea.
Spurs Web Opinion
I think there are better defenders out there that we have been looking at already, and Chelsea are very unlikely to do a deal with us anyway. We would be better off not wasting our time here and focusing on signing attainable, and more suitable targets, like Adarabioyo.
