The Telegraph have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur might have to pay as much as £50m to sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea.

The report states that Spurs are on the lookout for reinforcements in the middle of the park since Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be on his way out of the club this summer.

It is said that Ange Postecoglou’s men have identified Gallagher as one of the options who could take the Dane’s place in the starting eleven.

Hojbjerg has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid and has shown an interest in moving to Spain in order to continue to play Champions League football (Daily Mail).

Spurs linked with £50m-rated Conor Gallagher

Spurs are not the Chelsea player’s only admirer, with Newcastle United and Aston Villa also rumoured to have him on their list, however, it is pointed out that the Magpies have now signed Sandro Tonali in the same position which the former Crystal Palace loanee operates.

The Telegraph add that Mauricio Pochettino is an admirer of Gallagher and that any move for the midfielder would be dependent on him being deemed surplus to requirements by the Argentine.

It is said that the Blues could demand up to £50m for the 23-year-old, given his high potential resale value and his homegrown status.

Gallagher is an excellent fit for the profile Postecoglou would want and the 23-year-old could also cover for James Maddison in the number eight role if necessary. However, £50m is quite excessive for the England international since there are better midfielders available at that price range such as Sofyan Amrabat.
