The Daily Mail have revealed that there are some concerns internally at Chelsea that they are strengthening some of their direct rivals, amidst Tottenham’s interest in Conor Gallagher.

The report backs up the information we have heard from other publications over recent weeks by stating that Gallagher has been identified by Tottenham as a potential replacement for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who is expected to join Atletico Madrid.

It is claimed that Ange Postecolgou is ‘an admirer’ of the Chelsea star’s energetic approach and believes that the 23-year-old would fit well into his system.

The publication states that as things stand, Chelsea are reluctant to sell Gallagher as they are short of options in the middle of the park.

However, it is explained that the situation could change if the Blues land their number one midfield target, Moises Caicedo, from Brighton.

Chelsea do not want to strengthen Spurs squad

The Mail also add that there is one other ’emerging concern’ at the West London club about selling Gallagher to Tottenham.

Having already sold Mason Mount and Mateo Kovacic to Manchester United and Manchester City respectively, there is said to be some apprehension about continuing to strengthen their direct rivals.

Spurs Web Opinion

I fully expect Tottenham to test the waters with an offer for Gallagher sooner rather than later.

However, it remains to be seen if the North London club would be willing to cough up the £40m-£50m that the Blues are likely to demand for the England international.
