Conor Gallagher has accepted he will need to leave Chelsea this summer after being deemed ‘surplus to requirements’, which has put Tottenham on alert.

Tottenham already have experienced heads such as Yves Bissouma, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in their midfield, along with youngsters Oliver Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr.

However, it is thought the North London side want to reinforce in the centre of the pitch. This need to add to the midfield has become particularly pertinent of late amid speculation Hojbjerg could leave the club this summer (Daily Mail).

The Danish international is believed to be the top target for Atletico Madrid this summer and it is thought Spurs would want around £35m for the player (Mundo Deportivo).

Should Hojbjerg leave, it appears Tottenham are keen to replace him with Chelsea star Conor Gallagher (Telegraph).

Conor Gallagher is not wanted at Chelsea

Whether Spurs can convince Chelsea to sell to a London rival remains to be seen, but it would seem Gallagher is on his way out of Stamford Bridge regardless.

According to the latest from the Evening Standard, Gallagher has now been “deemed surplus to requirements” by the Blues and is actively “being offered to clubs.”

As things stand, it is believed Spurs and West Ham are “leading the fight” to sign the 23-year-old. The report claims the Hammers are ready to use the money they received from selling Declan Rice to “push ahead” of the Lilywhites.

Gallagher himself now “increasingly accepts” he will need to move on. While new boss Mauricio Pochettino is “a fan” of the player, it is believed he too understands the club’s decision to push Gallagher out.

Spurs Web Opinion

I’m unsure whether Gallagher would be the right kind of player to replace Hojbjerg in our squad, as the Dane does a lot more of the dirty work whereas Gallagher is more of a box-to-box midfielder.

I would rather us keep Hojbjerg personally, but if he is on his way out, Gallagher would still be a good addition to our squad.
