Conor Gallagher has been made available for transfer by Chelsea, with both Tottenham and West Ham thought to be leading the way for his signature.
With speculation mounting that Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could be on his way out of North London (Daily Mail), it seems Ange Postecoglou will need to add a new midfielder to his squad ahead of the new season.
The combative Dane is now strongly linked with Atletico Madrid and reports suggest Spurs expect to receive around £35 million if they are to let him leave this summer (Mundo Deportivo).
As it stands, all signs point to Conor Gallagher being the man to replace Hojbjerg, with the Chelsea star mooted as Postecoglou’s preferred choice to bolster the midfield at Spurs (Telegraph).
A report from the Evening Standard claimed Gallagher is now ‘surplus to requirements’ at Chelsea and has already been ‘offered to clubs’ with a view to moving him on this summer.
Contrasting prices being reported for Gallagher
If Tottenham can get £35 million for Hojbjerg during the current transfer window, it looks like that money could end up going to Chelsea, as the Blues also value Gallagher at that price point.
That’s according to journalist Nizaar Kinsella, who added to the report from the Standard with extra information on Chelsea’s valuation of the 23-year-old.
Kinsella said: “Chelsea are ready to sell Conor Gallagher despite his preseason appearances. It’s a direct battle between Tottenham and West Ham for his signature. He’ll cost around £35m with two years left on his Chelsea deal.”
However, Liam Twomey from The Athletic claims Chelsea want a package worth £50m for Gallagher, as they value him very highly – just not high enough to actually keep.
Seeing as Jacob Steinberg claims Chelsea turned down a £37m bid for Gallagher from West Ham this week, it appears the £35m valuation is indeed wide of the mark.
Chelsea would ideally like a package worth £50m for Conor Gallagher. They value him highly – just not highly enough to actually keep.
He isn’t pushing to leave and fits the age profile of Pochettino’s squad. It’s a strange state of affairs 👇 #CFC https://t.co/4DmCMiNxjU

Spurs Web Opinion
£35 million for a homegrown player who has experience at the top level for club and country is pretty reasonable – £50m on the other hand is a little steep. I would be sad to see Hojbjerg go, but Gallagher does seem to be a fairly good option to replace him.
