Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has revealed that Destiny Udogie withdrew from Italy’s Under-21 squad after coming down with a fever following Tottenham’s win at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Udogie has been one of Tottenham’s most impressive performers in the first four league games, with the youngster adapting seamlessly to the Premier League and to the inverted full-back role in Ange Postecoglou’s system.

The 20-year-old has made such an outstanding start to the campaign that some would have been surprised that he was only called up to Italy’s Under-21 squad rather than to the senior squad.

Some Spurs fans might have become nervous when the Italian FA confirmed on their website that Udogie was unavailable for the Under-21s’ upcoming European Championship qualifiers, and had been replaced in the squad.

Tottenham’s Destiny Udogie is not injured

However, Tottenham supporters will be relieved to hear that the left-back has only missed out due to a fever rather than an injury.

Gold revealed that after Udogie had come down with a fever following Tottenham’s win against Burnley, it was decided that he would be better served resting and recovering at home.

This is certainly a big relief. While Ben Davies is very reliable, the Welshman would be a significant downgrade to Udogie.

That is a problem that Tottenham have all over the pitch this season, with replacements for the likes of Bissouma, Maddison and both our centre-backs being nowhere near the same level as those starters.
