Bournemouth have seen an opening bid for rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Alex Scott having been rejected by Bristol City, according to Daily Mail journalist Sami Mokbel.

TEAMtalk claimed on Tuesday that Bournemouth have leapfrogged Tottenham and moved into pole position in the race to sign the England Under-21 international.

The teenager has been heavily linked with Tottenham over recent months, with journalist Ben Jacobs stating on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel just two weeks ago that the Lilywhites were at the front of the queue.

Mokbel wrote on Twitter: “Bournemouth have had a bid of £15m for Alex Scott turned down by Bristol City. Talks ongoing. Scott valued at £25m.”

Bournemouth in Alex Scott talks

With Bristol City demanding £25m for the talented midfielder, teamTALK previously claimed that West Ham United and Wolves were reluctant to pay such a high fee for the youngster which may have paved the way for the Cherries to make a move for Scott, who is viewed as a ‘key target’ by Andoni Iraola’s men.

Scott has been dubbed the ‘Guernsey Grealish’ due to his Channel Island heritage – only broke into the Robins’ senior squad in 2021 and has already made 91 appearances in all competitions for the Championship outfit (transfermarkt).

Speaking at the latter end of the season Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson warned clubs of their valuation for Scott when he told Bristol World:  “It’s got to be more than £25million, he shouldn’t go for less than that. Since he made his debut for us he’s played 80 odd games, so he’s been a regular.

“People talk about second seasons-itis where players get a drop-off, I don’t think we’ve seen that at all, I think we’ve seen him push on.

“He’s managed to continue his development with a pretty steady upward curve over the two years he’s been here now. That speaks volumes not just about his ability but his temperament too.

“He’ll go on to really big things, I’m sure about that. He’ll play at the top, he’ll play for a top side, there’s no doubt in my mind about that, whoever makes a proper bid at some point, it’s going to have to be a really big bid to get him,’ Pearson added.

“There’s no doubt in my mind that we’ll have to deal with bids this summer, I think that will happen but the speculation at the minute is not club to club.”

Just as with the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Jack Grealish and Eberechi Eze over the years, it feels like we will come to regret not signing up Scott this summer if we allow the 19-year-old to join another Premier League club.

The teenager looks like an ideal fit for Ange Postecoglou, who might enjoy shaping him according to the needs of his system.
