Brentford boss Thomas Frank has claimed the Bees are still in the race for Christian Eriksen and the midfielder will call him with his final decision in around two weeks.
The chances of Eriksen completing a fairytale return to Tottenham seem to have taken a blow this week.
The Evening Standard revealed on Monday that Spurs have not held formal talks with the 30-year-old’s agent while Football.London claimed that Tottenham are downplaying the possibility of the midfielder returning to the club.
The Athletic reported a few days ago that Manchester United are set to miss out on Eriksen as the Denmark international would prefer to remain in London, thus giving Spurs and Brentford an advantage.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils are still in the race for the former Spurs man, having confirmed their interest to the player’s agent last week.
Frank has now revealed that he is still hopeful Eriksen will put pen to paper on a long-term contract at the Brentford Community Stadium.
He told AS: “I never had any doubts that he would come back to a good level and now I hope we can retain him.
“I do not know [Eriksen to Brentford]. I know we still have a chance and I hope he will make a decision in two weeks.
“The agreement is that he will call me and tell me what he wants to do. He hasn’t decided yet.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It appears increasingly likely with each passing day that Eriksen is going to sign a contract with Brentford. I suspect that Conte was not willing to give the Dane assurances over regular game time, which is why Tottenham’s pursuit of the 30-year-old fell through.
