The Sun journalist Tom Barclay has revealed that Tottenham have decided not to push ahead with a move for Christian Eriksen as Antonio Conte is happy with his options in the middle of the park.
Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Eriksen all summer, with publications even previously suggesting that the North London club were confident the Dane would complete a fairytale return to the club (90 min).
However, over the last couple of days, the 30-year-old’s proposed move to Spurs has been cast into serious doubt.
The Evening Standard’s Dan Kilpatrick revealed on Monday that Spurs have not held formal talks with Eriksen’s agent while Football.London’ Alasdair Gold claimed that Tottenham are downplaying the possibility of the midfielder returning to the club.
Barclay has now taken to social media to reveal that Spurs are set to pull out of the race for the Denmark international.
The journalist claimed that Conte is happy to go into the new season with Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur as his four midfield options.
Regarding Christian Eriksen, believe Spurs are set to swerve a move for their former playmaker (as others have reported). Antonio Conte happy with his four CMs of Bissouma, Hojbjerg, Bentancur and Skipp.

With Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso likely to leave the club, one would think that Conte would want to sign at least one attacking midfielder to give himself the option to switch to a 3-5-2 if needed.
However, perhaps the Italian has decided that 3-4-3 will be the way to go and wants six different options for the three positions up front, in which case Spurs might try to sign a striker and a winger (assuming Bergwijn leaves).
I still suspect that Fabio Paratici will put in a late bid for a number eight like Weston McKennie, even though that might not be the club’s priority at the moment.
