Speaking on his YouTube channel, Football.London Tottenham correspondent Alasdair Gold has claimed that Christian Eriksen’s camp are surprised by his former club’s current stance on a return this summer.
Eriksen impressed during his Premier League return after signing a six-month deal with Brentford in January (TransferMarkt).
The 30-year-old proved he could still operate at the top-tier of English football, providing four assists and scoring once in 11 Premier League appearances as Thomas Frank’s men avoided relegation (TransferMarkt).
The Dane’s fine form has seen him linked with a longer stay in England, with Brentford, Manchester United, and Spurs all said to be interested in the midfielder (Sky Sports).
However, recent contact between Spurs and Eriksen’s camp has reportedly been sparse, with a hiatus on negotiations for two weeks (The Times).
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Fabio Paratici is concentrating on completing deals for a new right-sided wing-back, a centre-back, and a forward. So, Eriksen is not seen as a priority transfer for the club.
Gold gave his insight into the situation: “I’ve been doing a bit of digging on both sides of that deal today. And it seems like Spurs have gone cold on it, for whatever reason that is.
“At this current time, they haven’t followed up on initial interest shown. And certainly, those from a Spurs side are really distancing themselves with regard to any discussions going on.
“And from the other side of things, people I’ve spoken to on that side, they’re saying that Spurs were in contact about two weeks ago over Eriksen, with his camp about a potential return, but just haven’t followed it up since.
“It’s a really strange one, because I get the impression from the Eriksen side of things, from people within his camp, there’s a little bit of surprise at the stance that Spurs have taken as well.”
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no doubt that most Spurs fans will be happy with the way the window is shaping up so far. Making three signings that address the current needs of the squad for a combined fee of £25 million is fantastic business.
However, with Eriksen available on a free transfer, it bemuses me that the club aren’t all over a deal for our former number 23. If he decides to sign for United, he will be strengthening a rival.
