Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to re-sign Christian Eriksen this summer according to Sky Sports‘ live transfer blog (19:27 – 23/6/22).
The report claims that the midfielder is deciding between whether to move to Manchester United to sign a new contract to remain at Brentford.
The Dane is reported to be settled in London, having returned to the capital ahead of joining Brentford in January following his release from Inter Milan.
Eriksen’s family are said to have reservations about moving further north and the lure of a higher salary is not his priority.
The former Spurs playmaker enjoyed an impressive spell at the Brentford Community Stadium, helping the club to avoid relegation with his strong relationship with the Danish contingent within the Bees ranks said to put them in a favourable position.
The 30-year-old collapsed on the pitch during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener against Finland last summer, having suffered a cardiac arrest and had an Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) fitted, which can reset the heart after a cardiac arrest.
Eriksen is said to be focused on ensuring himself of a place in the Danish squad for November’s World Cup and wants to start every game for his club side to cement a place on the plane to Qatar.
It is claimed that an emotional return to north London appears to be off the cards with Antonio Conte typically playing with two central midfielders within his tactical set-up.

While Spurs may have four central midfield options in Yves Bissouma, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Rodrigo Bentancur, they still lack a creative spark in the middle of the pitch and heavily rely on Harry Kane to drop deep and orchestrate play.
If Eriksen was insistent on starting every game, it’s no surprise that Conte has decided to pass up on the opportunity given how he would have to tweak his formation to accommodate the Dane.
